Leroy had considered the possibilities. Maybe I was mad at him for pulling out my dad’s ventilator, so I was hiding
from him.
Or maybe I was ashamed–I had hurt Rachel twice, after all.
But what he never expected was to see my marriage certificate on someone else’s phone.
The photo showed me in a bridal portrait, and the man beside me in the photo was Neil–his uncle.
I was smiling sweetly in the photo.
Leroy suddenly realized he hadn’t seen me smile like that in over ten years.
Elise beamed, practically glowing with delight.
“Cecilia getting married… well, that’s one thing off my mind. You all know, if Rachel got married first, people would’ve talked.”
Charlie didn’t seem to care.
“Yeah, Neil’s been settling down lately. He’ll treat her fine.”
“What is this?”
Leroy’s voice came out hoarse.
“Marriage certificate, Cecilia, and–wait, Leroy, what are you doing?!”
Her smile shattered as he snatched the phone out of her hands and smashed it to the ground.
But even that didn’t satisfy him–he stomped on it with his leather shoe, grinding it into pieces.
“Married? Who said she could get married?! It’s fake–it’s another lie! She’s lying to me again!”
The room went deathly silent. Heads turned, all eyes locked on the scene unfolding.
Charlie, ever obsessed with appearances, immediately scowled.
“Leroy, what the hell is your problem?”
Rachel rushed over in her custom wedding gown, nearly tripping on the hem. Leroy didn’t even make a move to help
her.
Tears welled up in Rachel’s eyes as her voice turned soft and trembling.
“Leroy, what’s wrong?”

Chapter 5
He was breathing hard, vision blurring at the edges.
He had come back to life, just like me. He knew I was a heartless woman.
So why? Why, the moment he saw me married to someone else, did he want to rip my husband apart?
Even if that husband was his own uncle.
Rachel was nervous now.
She exchanged a quick glance with Elise, relieved her secret hadn’t been exposed.
Relieved, she forced a smile and tried to take Leroy’s hand. But he subtly pulled away.
For the first time since she’d successfully “caught” Leroy, he rejected her.
Leroy’s face darkened as he rubbed his temple.
“I’m not feeling well. I’m heading back to rest.”
He still didn’t believe the marriage was real.
He turned to leave–just as he reached the doorway, a house staff walked in.
The house staff was carrying a box.

“Mr. Charlie, Mrs. Quinn, this is a wedding gift from Mr. Houle. He said he hopes his future marriage to Ms. David- son will be as sweet as this candy.”
His breathing, which had just started to calm, grew ragged again.
Leroy’s eyes went bloodshot as he smashed everything within reach.
The wedding candy? He ordered it ripped open and dumped straight down the drain.
“Happy? Sweet?! You’re that happy without me?!”
Everyone had already scattered, but not one person dared speak about what had just happened.
Only Rachel crept forward, timid and uncertain.
“Leroy… aren’t you happy for Cecilia? That she got married?”
Leroy turned around in the middle of the wreckage.
“Rachel, tell me–about what happened at the hospital yesterday. Did you lie to me?”
Rachel barely missed a beat.
“Of course not! I’d never lie to you.”
Leroy nodded slowly.

“I see.”
He walked off in silence, disappearing into the study.
The wedding night he thought he’d been looking forward to now felt completely empty.
Around midnight, he stepped out, thinking some air in the garden might help.

Instead, he caught someone sneaking around in the living room–a man, right in the middle of trying to slip some- thing into his liquor.
The bodyguards pinned the guy to the floor. Leroy walked over and pressed a shoe to the man’s head.
“What were you trying to do?”
The man completely lost it–he wet himself and started bawling.
“Mr. Quinn, I’ll talk, I’ll tell you everything! Someone paid me 800 thousand dollars to drug your drink. I was sup- posed to put it in the wedding alcohol but…”
He didn’t need to finish. Leroy understood instantly.
The wedding had been a disaster–he’d smashed everything and hadn’t had a single sip of alcohol today.
That’s why nothing went the way it had in his prophetic dream.
No wonder he could usually drink a hundred shots without flinching, but that night, he’d blacked out completely. That night in the past, he got so drunk he missed Rachel’s call for help.
Leroy’s expression turned sharp and cold.
“Who paid you to do it?”
The man shook his head in panic.
“I can’t say! If I say it, I’ll die, Mr. Quinn! I swear I’ll be killed!”
Leroy gave a chilling laugh.
“And you think not telling me is going to keep you alive?”
At his signal, the bodyguards started beating the man within an inch of his life.
It didn’t take long for him to break.
“I’ll talk…” the man gasped, motioning for Leroy to come closer.
“It was Mrs. Quinn… She said she just wanted to drug you, so your marriage would be more… harmonious…”
