Chapter 2
After handling this mess, I was in no mood to continue my vacation.
I said a hasty goodbye to my parents and cut my trip short, flying straight back home.
Stepping onto the set, I was hit with a buzz of activity that made me furrow my brow.
By all rights, the place should have been deserted after my explicit orders to halt production and replace the
director.
Yet the scene before me made it clear that someone wasn’t taking my words seriously.
One glance was all it took to spot Nathan.
He was crouched in front of Olivia, meticulously adjusting the collar of her costume with focused tenderness.
It was an expression he rarely showed in professional settings since becoming famous.
And ironically, the exact look that had made me fall for him in the first place.
Someone sharp–eyed spotted me and gasped, “Ms. Carter!”
The set instantly fell silent.
Nathan looked up, the softness on his face vanishing the moment he saw me.
Olivia recovered quickly–her smile froze for only a second before she greeted me with practiced charm:
“Hello, Ms. Carter, so nice to see you! I heard you were vacationing with your parents. What brings you back so
soon?”
I couldn’t be bothered to look at her. My gaze swept past her and landed directly on Nathan’s face.
“Clear out the unauthorized personnel. I don’t want random strays wandering around disrupting my production.”
The crew members exchanged uncomfortable glances, trapped between two power players they couldn’t afford to
offend.
Olivia’s face turned ghostly pale as she stood awkwardly, looking to Nathan for help.
He didn’t disappoint her.
Nathan quickly stepped in front of Olivia, his tone carrying obvious irritation.
“Valerie, this is a film set. Watch your attitude.”
“She’s an actress in the production, not ‘unauthorized personnel!”

“This is MY production, and I don’t recall adding this… whatever she is.”
“Ms. Carter, I’m just-”
I raised my hand, cutting off Olivia mid–sentence:
“Who gave you permission to speak? Get the fuck out!”
My attitude completely set Nathan off, his voice suddenly rising several decibels.
“Enough! I personally cast Olivia myself. Her talent is absolutely not in question!”
Nathan had always been incredibly strict about casting choices.
Even when investors pushed their favorites, he would fight back, never compromising,
Yet here he was, repeatedly breaking his own rules for some unknown newcomer, even willing to publicly clash
with me.
“I don’t give a damn about her talent!”
“This film has a hundred–million–dollar budget! It’s not some indie project. A–listers are fighting for supporting roles, and every actress who gets in goes through multiple rounds of auditions!”
“You’re throwing away your principles for this nobody?”
“And by the way, have you forgotten that I fired you yesterday?”
“Director. Fucking. Fuller-”
“What exactly gives you the right to be here calling shots?”
In the past, no matter our disagreements, I’d never publicly humiliated him.
That’s why he’d felt so comfortable throwing his weight around as the CEO’s husband.
Nathan’s face flushed red, caught off guard by my words.
“Fine! Yes, you fired me, but I built this production from the ground up! There are countless details only I
understand!”
“Until a new director takes over, I have a responsibility to this crew!”
The staff around us didn’t dare breathe. Everyone could hear a pin drop on set.
I couldn’t help but laugh, leaning in close to his face, shredding whatever dignity he had left.
“Nathan, this is MY screenplay, MY investment, MY set! You have ZERO authority to make personnel decisions!”
“Have I been too damn good to you all these years? Is that why you think my position gives you free rein?”

“Now take her and get out!”
Nathan backed up half a step under the force of my intensity, finally showing a flash of panic in his eyes.
“V–Valerie! Don’t be so unreasonable! Everything I’ve done is for the good of the film…”
“GET OUT! Don’t make me have security throw you both out!”
Nathan glared at me, his eyes slightly reddened.
In the end, he grabbed the shell–shocked Olivia who was still frozen in place, and they made a humiliating exit from
the set.
