Michelle bumped right into me. I did her a favor and told her, “He’s at the back.”
Her eyes were slightly reddened, probably because she hadn’t slept much lately. She mumbled quietly, “Herbert’s condition isn’t looking good. The doctor said that… there’s a possibility of stomach cancer.”
I nodded in understanding, but I genuinely didn’t know how to react to that.
It had only been one month, but it was apparently enough time to erase whatever love and affection I’d harbored for Herbert over the years.

Michelle spoke again, asking me a question this time. “If you have the time, can you please visit Mandy more often? She really likes you.”
agreed without hesitation.
Emotionally speaking, she had treated me like her own daughter.
Logically speaking, she was also my biggest and most valuable client.
I got back to my studio and prayed devoutly as usual.
The young woman at the reception grew curious. She asked me, “Ms. Summers, what did you just pray for? Did you pray for a husband?”
I shook my head. “I didn’t pray for anything.”
When I was a kid, I mimicked the orphanage director and prayed that I would find my
parents again.
After I was adopted, I prayed for my adoptive father to be taken away. Then, I prayed for my business to flourish.

Lastly, after meeting Herbert, I prayed for our relationship to be a smooth–sailing one.
But now, I had run out of things to pray for. There was nothing else I wanted.
The next day, I issued a statement officially announcing the launch of “Forever Love” and opened pre–sale orders.
Since I needed time to prepare the fragrance, the official launch date would be in a month.
On the day of my product release, I received a call from Herbert. It was quite noisy on his end of the line, and I could even hear someone announcing something in the background over the speakers.

“Lyanna, I’m being transferred to a hospital overseas for treatment. My flight is today. I also watched the live coverage of your launch. You looked really pretty.”
I replied, “Thanks.”
His voice then dropped to a lower octave, sounding like an injured puppy as he asked, “Can you come see me off at the airport?”
I heard the background announcement urging the passengers to prepare for boarding at the gate once more. I rejected him outright. “I can’t.”
He chuckled and seemingly muttered to himself, “I probably won’t be coming back. Can you at least pray for my safety?”
“Be safe.”
I wasn’t a god who could guarantee his safety, nor would I pray for him. The most I could do was simply wish him well with words.
Still, I could hear him chuckling again. “You’re still such a softie at heart, Lyanna.”
“You got a bracelet for me. At the very least, I wouldn’t curse you to death.”
The announcer in the background started speaking again, so I hung up on him first.

Someone in the crowd asked, “If the fragrance was based on love, then why doesn’t it smell
sweet but bitter instead?”
I went up onstage and tapped lightly on the microphone.
“Some people are lucky. They get to experience a beautiful kind of love from start to finish,
while most of us only know the painful, bitter kind.
“From what I see, love can exist without grand promises or romantic dates.
“However, it must have trust, sincerity, and a little bit of attraction.”
