Chapter 9
In the hospital, Serena lay on the bed, her face as white as paper, lips bloodless, eyes tightly shut, brows furrowed as if trapped in endless suffering.
Mr. and Mrs. Pierce paced anxiously nearby while Connor continuously dialed his phone, trying desperately to contact Aria. But all he heard was the cold automated message: “The number you have dialed is currently switched off.”
Maxwell stood to the side, a shadow crossing his face.
He took out his phone, dialed a number, and spoke briefly: “Find someone with RH–negative blood
and
get them to the hospital immediately. Whatever the cost!”
Then he hung up and turned toward Serena’s bed, his eyes filled with worry and urgency.
After the blood transfusion, Serena’s complexion gradually regained some color. Mr. and Mrs. Pierce
and Connor all sighed with relief.
Maxwell looked at Serena, his eyes still full of concern. “Rest well, Serena. I’m going back to check on
Aria.”
Then Maxwell rushed back to the Pierce home. The moment he entered, he sensed an unusual
silence.
Walking into the living room, he spotted the family disownment letter and heirloom necklace on the table. His face instantly turned ashen.
He picked up the letter, staring at Aria’s signature, his hand trembling slightly.
Mr. and Mrs. Pierce and Connor soon arrived home as well, all freezing at the sight of the items on
the table.
Mrs. Pierce was the first to react. She grabbed the letter, tore it to pieces, and shouted, “This ungrateful daughter! How dare she!”
Mr. Pierce’s expression darkened. “She’s just throwing a tantrum. She thinks she can cut ties with the Pierce family and break off her engagement to the Thorntons? She’s just a silly girl. I’d like to see where she’ll go without us. She’ll come crawling back in a few days.”

Connor snorted coldly from the side. “Exactly. She’s just trying to get our attention. She needs to be taught a lesson.”
“Forget about her for now. Let’s get back to the hospital to look after Serena. Of all times, Aria
chooses to throw a fit when Serena is injured. If anything happens to Serena, I won’t let Aria off the
hook.”
With that, the Pierce family stormed out, slamming the door behind them.
Only Maxwell remained, clutching the family heirloom tightly, an uneasy feeling growing in his
heart.
Aria, was she really just being defiant?
Would she really come back in a few days?
She would.
They hadn’t even held their wedding yet. She loved him so much, she would definitely return.
He kept telling himself this as he tucked the necklace into his pocket and quickly left.
The Pierce family and Maxwell hurried back to the hospital, hearts full of concern as they approached Serena’s room. Just outside the door, they heard Serena’s sweet voice on what sounded
like a phone call.
“Pretending to fall down that mountain really wore me out. To get rid of Aria, I’ve gone through so much trouble all these years–fainting, falling down stairs, and last time even deliberately hitting the gas instead of the brake to run her over. Yet she still stubbornly refused to leave.”
“But thankfully it’s all over now. That Aria has finally been driven away. Now no one will compete with me, and I won’t have to play the fragile victim anymore.”
Hearing this, everyone stood frozen in shock, as if struck by lightning.
How could Serena do such things?
They had always thought she was fragile and innocent, never imagining it was all an elaborate scheme.
Mr. and Mrs. Pierce and Connor burst into the room, faces livid.

Seeing them, Serena’s face instantly drained of color, her phone clattering to the floor.
“Serena, why would you do this?” Mrs. Pierce’s voice trembled, her eyes filled with disbelief.
Serena rushed over to grab them, tears streaming down her face.
“Mom, Dad, Connor, I’m sorry. I was just afraid of losing your love.”
“You originally had just me, your only daughter, your only sister. But then you had Aria, and I was terrified she would steal your affection from me.”
Hearing this, Mr. and Mrs. Pierce angrily called her ridiculous.
“Aria was born specifically for your sake! How could we ever favor her over you? Over the years, our love for you has only grown. Haven’t you noticed? Why resort to these tricks?”
Connor was furious too. “Last time with the car accident, I thought it was genuinely a mistake. Aria
was covered in blood, but I only cared about comforting you. Now you’re telling me you did it on
purpose? Serena, you’ve disappointed me deeply!”
Seeing her parents and brother angry, Serena instantly recovered, grabbing their sleeves and pleading through tears.
“I didn’t mean it, I swear. This is the last time.”
“I’ve let you down, but you love me the most, don’t you? Please forgive me.”
‘Mom, Dad, whenever you had insomnia or headaches, I carefully prepared aromatherapy to soothe you. Connor, during that earthquake, I risked my life to pull you from the rubble!”
Connor’s expression wavered, and Mr. and Mrs. Pierce’s faces softened with reluctance.
Serena then looked at Maxwell, her face full of grievance: “Uncle Maxwell, you care for me, don’t you? Years ago when I was dancing in the garden, you fell in love with me at first sight. Aria was only born to provide blood for me. I know it was wrong to make her donate so many times, but I couldn’t stand her stealing your love.”
Maxwell’s brows furrowed deeply, his heart a mix of conflicting emotions. He had always believed Serena was that kind, beautiful girl, never imagining she could be so calculating.
Just then, the housekeeper who had been silently standing by suddenly stepped forward, falling to her knees with tears streaming down her face.
