Chapter 5
Aria never dreamed that after donating blood to Serena countless times throughout her life, not a single person would be willing to use Serena’s blood to save her when she faced death.
And worse still, her car accident was entirely Serena’s fault!
She’d thought she already saw through everyone’s true nature, that no matter how much they hurt her, she wouldn’t feel heartbroken anymore.
But in this moment, hearing their cold–hearted words, the pain struck her like a thousand arrows piercing her heart.
As excruciating pain overtook her, she blacked out completely.
When she next woke, three days had passed.
This time, she felt more exhausted than ever before.*
The first person Aria saw when she opened her eyes was Maxwell.
He appeared to have been by her bedside for a long time, his face showing signs of fatigue.
Seeing her awake, his stern expression finally softened into a slight smile. “Aria, you’re awake.”
“Are you in pain anywhere? Would you like something to eat? The doctor said you lost a lot of blood
and need proper rest. Just tell me what you want to eat, okay?”
The caring demeanor of the man before her seemed completely at odds with the cold–hearted person who had prevented Serena from donating blood to her.
If she hadn’t heard his words with her own ears, she might have been deeply moved by his gentle,
attentive act.
After Maxwell left, she asked the nurse who was giving her an injection, “Who ended up donating blood to me?”
The nurse sighed, remaining silent for a moment before answering, “Your family was so strange. We tried to convince them for ages to let your sister donate, but they refused.”

Chapter 5
“Fortunately, our hospital keeps blood type records, and we were able to call in a doctor with your rare blood type who was on vacation. He rushed back to the hospital to donate blood and save your
life.”
Then she looked at Aria with confusion.
“You’re adopted, right? And the man who was just here taking care of you–that’s your sister’s fiancé,
isn’t it?”
Aria froze, then let out a self–mocking laugh until a tear silently slid down her cheek.
During her entire hospital stay, her parents hadn’t visited once. Only Maxwell had taken care of her.
Aria understood–this was how they ensured she remained utterly devoted to him, so she would
willingly continue being Serena’s personal blood bank in the future.
Yet even with this act, he couldn’t be bothered to make it more convincing.
Throughout her hospital stay, he was constantly distracted.
He’d either be on his phone in the hallway or smiling softly at his screen.
She knew Serena was on the other end. Only Serena could make him smile like that.
On the day of her discharge, he came as promised to take her home.
As they stood at the hospital entrance, he received a call that instantly changed his expression.
The man who typically never showed his emotions now displayed obvious anger in his eyes.
His long fingers gripping the phone turned slightly white, clearly struggling to contain his feelings.
‘Aria, there’s an urgent matter at the company I need to handle. Would you mind taking a taxi
home?”
Aria calmly nodded, graciously telling him to go deal with the company issue and not worry about
her.
Maxwell got into his car with obvious relief, and immediately sped away.
Watching his car disappear from view, Aria tugged at the corner of her lips.

She knew exactly why Maxwell was angry and why he was in such a desperate rush.
Just moments ago, Serena had posted on social media–a photo of herself with a handsome young
man.
The caption read: “This cute guy asked for my number. Should I give it to him or not?”
Serena knew perfectly well how to drive a man crazy for her. In the past, Aria might have felt jealous and envious.
But now? She only felt nothing. She had her own matters to attend to.
She closed her phone and took a taxi directly to the police station.
