Chapter 3
In her previous life, Serena had used this exact excuse to postpone the wedding year after year.
As long as she refused to give her blessing, Maxwell would never marry Aria.
Thinking about this, Aria gave a self–mocking smile.
“It’s fine with me. Whatever works.”
Why wouldn’t it be fine? After all, they’d never actually get married now.
She put down her chopsticks and announced, “I’m done eating.”
Then she walked straight upstairs without looking back.
Watching her somewhat resolute figure disappear, Maxwell felt, for the first time, that something about her had changed.
He couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but she was definitely different from before.
In the days that followed, with the wedding indefinitely postponed, they naturally didn’t need to
continue with any wedding preparations.
Maxwell now had plenty of time to accompany Serena on various trips and outings. Serena made a
point of inviting her parents and Connor, deliberately excluding Aria–claiming she needed proper rest after donating blood.
Of course they were a happy family without her. They always had been.
If she joined them, wouldn’t she just be the unwelcome thorn in everyone’s side? Why subject herself to that misery?
To “share” the joy of their travels, Serena sent Aria photos from every location they visited.
In each picture–perfect backdrop, Serena stood in the center, beaming as she soaked up the affection from everyone around her.
‘Aria, it’s such a shame you couldn’t come. The scenery here is absolutely breathtaking!”

Chapter 3
“Mom and Dad said if I like it here, they’ll buy me a house so I can stay whenever I want.”
“Aria, Connor promised he’ll accompany me anywhere I want to go from now on.”
“Uncle Max gave me an amazing gift while we’re here. Want to know what it is?”
Aria deleted each photo as it came in, then turned off her phone and began packing her belongings.
She only needed to endure a little longer before she could finally break free.
Just then, she heard rustling sounds coming from downstairs.
Aria froze, suddenly remembering something from her previous life.
She recalled that around this same time, a burglar had broken in, not only stealing the family’s priceless jewelry but also destroying all of her artwork.
Immediately, alarm bells went off in her mind.
Money was just material, but her artwork represented her blood, sweat, and tears.
Quickly, she secured her paintings, called the police, and then grabbed a knife, hiding behind the
door.
With the advantage of having lived through this once before, she successfully helped the police catch
the intruder.
But despite knowing the burglar’s moves in advance, she was no match for his strength.
This time, she suffered several injuries and fell down the stairs, her face covered in blood.
When the Pierce family and Maxwell rushed home, they found police cars leaving and Aria sitting
disheveled on the sofa amidst complete chaos.
Her parents were stunned, their voices stammering, “You… you caught him by yourself?”
“Why didn’t you call us? These home invaders are dangerous criminals–do you have a death wish?”
Even Connor, typically cold toward her, showed rare surprise. “Seriously, not calling family wher there’s an intruder? What’s that about? Making it seem like we’re mistreating you or something!”
Aria was exhausted, too tired to even speak. She sat on the sofa, her hand that had gripped the knife

still trembling.
Noticing this, Maxwell anxiously grabbed her hand. “Are you okay, Aria? Are you hurt anywhere? Do we need to go to the hospital?”
“You’re so foolish–why didn’t you notify us!”
Aria forcefully pulled her hand from his grasp and weakly countered, “Would notifying you have made any difference? Would you really have rushed back for me?”
Everyone flinched, clearly guilty despite insisting, “Of course we would have!”
Aria gave a bitter smile. In her previous life, she had believed they would come back, desperately calling each of them.
But in the end, not one person had answered her calls.
And because she’d been caught making those calls, the burglar had discovered her and tortured her half to death.
Later, she learned they had all been watching fireworks with Serena that night.
While they enjoyed that peaceful moment elsewhere, she had nearly died.
So this time, she needed none of them.
Seeing her composed demeanor, Maxwell’s brows furrowed into a deep crease.
Once again, he felt that she had truly changed.
The old Aria would have been terrified, sobbing hysterically and hurt that they hadn’t been there for
her.
But now, she remained calm, as if none of this truly affected her.
Just as he was about to speak, Connor suddenly noticed the scattered luggage on the floor.
“Why are you packing so many things? Where are you’re going?!”
