Chapter 22
Chapter 22
Soon, Aria’s birthday arrived.
Lucas threw a grand party for her, inviting numerous friends and family.
At the party, the lights sparkled brilliantly, flowers adorned every corner, and a sweet atmosphere
filled the air.
Aria wore an elegant evening gown, looking as beautiful as a princess, while Lucas stayed by her side, his eyes never leaving her.
As everyone laughed and celebrated Aria’s birthday, the doors to the ballroom slowly opened, and the Pierce family and Maxwell appeared at the entrance.
The Pierce family carried carefully prepared gifts, their faces wearing awkward yet sincere smiles. Maxwell’s eyes fell directly on Aria, his steps unconsciously faltering.
He had actually hesitated for a long time, struggling internally every second before the party began.
Aria surged like a tidal wave, ultimately defeating his rationality and driving him to
hen he saw with his own eyes how intimate Aria and Lucas were, looking like a perfect his heart felt as if it had been struck by a heavy hammer.
Maxwell felt a sharp pain spreading from the depths of his heart, almost making it impossible to breathe.
But he gritted his teeth, enduring the agonizing pain, and struggled to make his expression appear calm and collected.
He took a deep breath and slowly walked toward Aria.
The moment Aria saw Maxwell, a complex emotion flashed in her eyes, but she quickly regained her composure.
She politely nodded to him, the corners of her mouth turning slightly upward in a perfectly measured smile, yet with a hint of distance.

Lucas keenly perceived Aria’s subtle change and followed her gaze to see Maxwell. He
imperceptibly pulled Aria closer to himself, as if declaring his claim to Maxwell.
Throughout the entire party, Lucas protected Aria well, until he went to get her a windbreaker,
finally giving Maxwell a chance to approach her.
Maxwell walked up to Aria. “Aria, happy birthday.”
His voice trembled slightly, betraying his inner turmoil.
Aria responded softly: “Thank you.”
Those two simple words seemed to draw an invisible chasm between them.
Just as Maxwell was about to present his gift, Aria spoke: “If it’s a free sample, don’t bother.”
With that single sentence, Maxwell instantly recalled an incident from a year ago, and his face
turned ashen.
As the Pierce family stepped forward to offer their gifts, Aria also said coolly: “You didn’t give me gifts for over twenty years before. There’s no need now.”
Again, a simple sentence cut through the Pierce family’s hearts like a knife.
Connor’s eyes reddened: “Aria, I know I was wrong. Can’t you forgive me?”
Forgiveness?
Aria silently repeated these words in her heart.
The neglect, grievances, and hurt she had suffered for over twenty years weighed on her heart like heavy mountains. Those birthdays forgotten by her family, the love stolen by her sister, the moments of being bullied by her brother–all were vivid in her memory.
How could she talk about forgiveness?
She had merely stopped caring.
However, before anyone could recover from this heavy atmosphere, the doors to the ballroom suddenly burst open.
Serena appeared before everyone in a disheveled state–her hair a mess, her prison uniform

She gripped a knife tightly in her hand and screamed hysterically: “Aria, I’m going to make you pay!”
She had actually… escaped from prison?!
