Chapter 2
Every time Aria donated blood to Serena, she needed several days to recover her strength, and this time was no exception.
For days, the Pierce family had been at the hospital watching over Serena, leaving Aria alone at
home.
She was walking out of her room with a cup in hand when something came flying at her face. Before she could even see who it was, a box smacked her hard enough to make her see stars.
That familiar pain–she didn’t need to think twice to know it was her “dear” mother.
“Aria! What the hell have you been doing? Why aren’t you answering our texts?”
“You did this on purpose, didn’t you? Deliberately ignoring us to make Serena upset!”
“You ungrateful brat–we should never have bothered with you!”
As the verbal assault continued, she wiped the blood from her forehead and pulled her phone from
her pocket, opening her texts.
Apparently, early that morning, they’d sent a group text explaining that today was Serena’s
discharge day. They’d instructed her to prepare Serena’s favorite chocolate cake to welcome her
home.
But how could she possibly bake a time–consuming cake when she’d just donated blood? She barely had the strength to stand.
Besides, she’d been so groggy that morning she hadn’t even seen the texts.
She opened her mouth to explain, but then noticed Maxwell and Connor carefully helping Serena into the living room.
The two of them treated her sister with extraordinary care–adjusting pillows so she could sit comfortably, handing her a glass of water at the perfect temperature, treating her like absolute royalty princess.
Connor’s eyes swept over Aria, his gentle expression instantly hardening into something cold and contemptuous.

Chapter 2
“Expecting her to bake Serena a cake? You might as well ask for the moon.”
“All she does is lounge around the house being lazy and useless. She can’t cook, has no talents, no hobbies–nothing but those worthless sketches she calls art. Not a single thing about her that could
ever measure up to Serena.”
Since the day she was born, Aria had spent more than half of every year donating blood to Serena.
Whatever time remained was spent recovering in bed.
Hobbies? When would she ever have time to develop interests like Serena?
And those “worthless sketches” he dismissed were the only dream she had in her barren life, yet he made them sound completely meaningless.
She’d heard these words countless times before, but each time they pierced her heart like a knife.
Maxwell glanced at her, stepping in to smooth things over as usual.
‘Aria, are you feeling unwell from yesterday’s donation? You look tired.”
In her previous life, his defense would have melted her heart completely.
At least one person seemed to care about her physical and emotional well–being.
But now, knowing the truth after her rebirth, she found it darkly ironic.
He only defended her to maintain the illusion that he loved her.
And because she loved him, he could effortlessly keep her trapped in his deception, completely
levoted to him.
But this time, she wouldn’t fall for it.
Hearing Maxwell’s words, Serena immediately put on her understanding face. “It’s fine, I don’t need ake. Let Aria rest properly.”
Connor glared at Aria with disgust, clearly dissatisfied with her behavior.
Serena, why do you even care about her? Whatever she does for you, she’s obligated to do it.”
After all, she only exists in this world because of you.”

Chapter 2
“You’re just too kind. Remember, only when you’re happy does her existence have any meaning.
Understand?”
His blunt words made Aria’s heart constrict painfully.
For a moment, it felt like countless needles were stabbing into her chest.
The blood flowing through her veins was the same as theirs; she was a person with feelings who could feel pain.
But nobody cared. Nobody had ever cared.
During dinner, everyone fawned over Serena.
Her parents continuously piled food onto her plate, while Connor meticulously removed fish bones before placing pieces in her bowl.
Every dish on the table was Serena’s favorite.
Aria kept her head down, quietly eating, when suddenly a piece of squid appeared in her bowl.
She looked up at Maxwell beside her, then back at the squid, a bitter smile tugging at her lips.
How considerate of him to keep up his performance of loving her. But if he truly loved her, wouldn’t he know that squid was Serena’s favorite food, while Aria was allergic to seafood?
The evidence of his indifference was everywhere, but she’d been so desperate for warmth that she’d only now seen the truth.
As dinner drew to a close, her parents brought up the wedding plans for Maxwell and Aria.
Serena put down her chopsticks, her eyes suddenly rimmed with tears. “Mom, Dad, I’ve been feeling so weak lately. I’m afraid I won’t be able to attend Aria and Uncle Max’s wedding.”
“But I really want to witness their happiness. Could we postpone the wedding until I’m feeling
better? Please?”
Everyone knew that in this family, Serena’s requests were always granted. Why did she need to put on this show of being selfless and considerate?
Her parents and Connor immediately agreed, of course. But Maxwell hesitated slightly, turning to Aria with a seemingly casual inquiry.
