Chapter 9
Xavier’s face looked as lifeless as if covered in ash.
“Aria, I’m sorry.”
I regarded him coldly. “If there’s nothing else, please leave.”
As I moved to close the door, he desperately braced against the frame. “Just five minutes!”
“I’m sorry. All this time, I thought you were bullying her…” His voice grew increasingly faint.
and you
“Hah,” I laughed bitterly. “A complete stranger claiming to be your distant cousin shows up, believe her without question? Were you just stupid, or are you just that easily manipulated by
women?”
As I turned to go inside, his phone suddenly rang.
The moment he answered, his face went ghostly pale, and the phone clattered to the floor.
A month later, I was cutting the ribbon at the grand opening of my new hotel.
Standing by the roadside waiting for Dominic, I suddenly heard the screeching of tires–a large truck barreled toward me like a madman!
My legs turned to jelly, and I was about to be hit!
Then another vehicle–a black sedan–crashed into the truck.
The violent collision forced the truck off course, and both vehicles immediately burst into flames.
Through the thick smoke, a blood–covered Natalia stumbled out. “You bitch! Why won’t you just die?!”
Security guards immediately restrained her.
From the mangled sedan, they pulled out Xavier, his body covered in blood.
In the hospital room, Xavier struggled to open his eyes. When he saw me, they slowly reddened with
tears.

“I’m sorry,” he croaked, his voice parched.
“Natalia was pregnant. She applied for medical parole herself.”
“She called me about the baby. I refused to let her keep it and told her to get an abortion. I never imagined she’d harbor such hatred and try to kill you instead.”
I looked at him quietly. “I know. She’s severely injured herself. The baby is gone.”
I was about to leave when Xavier suddenly became agitated, his eyes swirling with complex emotions–regret, pain, sorrow.
“I remember everything now! That day in our previous life when you were kidnapped…” his voice was barely recognizable.
