TEARS 23

TEARS 23

Ken had gotten too used to my unconditional patience and understanding. He was too used to me hiding my emotions carefully and giving in to him repeatedly

So when things started to feeldull,he actually believed he wasa little tired of it.”

That’s when he began noticing other people. He started responding to flirty words and admiring glances. He even gave Hazel a chance

However,it wasn’t until that engagement party, when I stood beside Charles and unwaveringly shielding him from the chaos, that Ken finally realized….

What he thought was secure in the palm of his hand….actually had never really belonged to him

When he called out my name,I didn’t even turn back

Ken buried his head in his arms. The alcohol made his head spin, but his mind was painfully clear

”

I thought you’d never leave mehe murmured. You saidyou only ever wanted to marry me….‘

However,l also told him that if he refused to acknowledge me,I would walk away. Yet,he did not believe me

Now,I had truly gone

The house was still the same house, but it was so empty that even the echo was cold

The potted plants on the balcony,my favorite ones, had long withered because he hadn’t watered

them

The fridge no longer held my signature black pepper chicken. There were only leftover beer and instant noodles

Everything had collapsed in an instant and he was the only one still sitting in the ruins. He foolishly thought he could still salvage something

With trembling fingers, he picked up his phone and dialed a familiar number

Did you use a private line?he asked his assistant

Yes,the assistant replied quietly. He already guessed the reason. He knew the boss was afraid I wouldn’t answer if I recognized the number

Finally,the call connected

Hello? My voice came through, calm and composed

It’s me, Ken croaked. His voice was hoarse, laced with drunkenness. Can we talk? For once, we’ll

talk.”

There was a pause on the other end as if he was hesitating

I didn’t want to continue to be pestered,so,eventually,I answered, Okay, I’ll see you tomorrow night.”

The call ended and Ken let out a small smile. He knew it,I was still the same kindhearted girl.He was sure that if he apologized sincerely,I would forgive him

After I hung up,Charles leaned against the doorway behind me,his brows furrowed tensely

4:36 am DD

You’re really going,huh?he asked,voice low,clearly displeased

I didn’t turn around and said softly,It’s time to talk it out, once and for all.”

You already said everything at the engagement party. He stepped forward and gently took the hand thạt held the ring.Emily, you’re my fiancée.”

turned to look into his eyes. Those eyes that were usually warm and serene now held a flicker of estrained fury

You’re worried I’ll go soft?I gave a faint smile.I won’t. I’m going there to end things. Not restart hem.”

Charles didn’t respond. He simply pulled me into a hug.It wasn’t tight, but it was real

His chin rested gently on my shoulder as he whispered,If I’d known you were suffering all these rears,I would’ve fought to bring you back sooner.I thought you were happy,so I stayed away.”

My heart clenched and my eyes couldn’t help but redden

It’s okay, “I whispered.”It’s not too late now.”

thought he’d let go after that, but to my surprise, the next thing he said was pure childish

Nope,I’m still jealous. You’re going on a date with me tomorrow before you see him.”

was in a daze

A date?It had been so long since I’d even heard that word. Ever since Ken and I moved in ogether, there was no such thing asdates.”

We woke up in the same bed. One of us would head out to the office first and the other would ollow soon after that. If we managed to grab lunch together,it felt like a luxury.Grocery shopping

fter work was routine,not romantic

Later on,the relationship was getting more monotonous, even meals were spent in silence. We

ad long forgotten what dating even felt like
