Hazel’s father was one of the biggest real estate tycoons in Bulwark City and a potential investor for Phase III of Ken’s commercial street project.
Hazel never said anything outright,but whenever she playfully brought up her dad’s company,she always used words like“we“and“don’t worry“.
Ken’s heart is in turmoil and his knuckles are white as he grips his cell phone.
What does it mean to meet the parents?It meant defining the relationship,taking a side,showing goodwill toward her family and giving them an answer.
However,he could not bring himself to reply.
Just then,his phone buzzed again.It was his childhood friend and business partner,Eric Payton.
‘Hey? Did you actually drive Emily away?“the other party immediately asked.
‘Are you out of your damn mind? Don’t you realize that the woman has supported your company for several years? Now your office is one step away from collapsing!”
Ken rubbed his temples in frustration.“It’s not like I don’t want to make things right. I’m getting ready to….”
‘Ready my ass!“Eric snapped.“If you really wanted to fix your relationship,you’d be on your way to her already.What are you still doing,hesitating at the office?”
There was a cold scoff on the line. “What,you’re going to wait until she’s completely done with you,then show up all pitiful and ask for a second chance?Who the hell do you think you are?” “Don’t lecture me,” Ken growled.”The company’s in a mess right now,so I’ve got to take care o things first….”
“No!The truth is,it’s not that you don’t want to go to her. You actually think she is being unreasonable,” Eric said bluntly.
‘She’s never been your top priority.”
This sentence was like a thunderous explosion.
Ken went dead silent.
After a long pause, he muttered defensively,“She’s too sensitive. She’s jealous of something tha didn’t even happen. She’s acting like I’m falling in and it’s just not true.”
“So your way of proving your innocence is…what? Going to meet Hazel’s parents with Hazel?” Ken stayed quiet for a long time. He didn’t deny it.
After the call ended,he sat alone in his study,unmoving. Then, finally, he picked up his phone and opened Hazel’s chat.
[What time tomorrow?I’ll come pick you up.]
He stared at the screen for a long while after sending it. He told himself he wasn’t admitting Hazel’s status. He just wanted Emily to realize she wronged him.
He hadn’t done anything wrong and Hazel’s presence was good for the company.
He just needed to wait until I calmed down. Then he could explain everything that I had misunderstood him and that he hadn’t betrayed me.

When I came back,I should apologize and act a little cute like before. Then we could go back to the way we were in the past.
Ken tightened his grip on the phone and let out a soft,bitter laugh.
He believed that I would come back.
Meanwhile,I was sitting face–to–face with the man my family had arranged for a formal matchmaking meeting.
The lights in the restaurant were as gentle as water and on the other side of the long table sat the famous heir to the renowned Watson Family.
wore the soft blush–pink dress my mother had carefully picked out,sitting properly across from 1ìm,my expression calm and unreadable as I held my water glass and listened to his words politely.
He was an impressive man.He was also handsome,articulate and composed. His movement was ull of the tranquility of someone who had been in a high position for a long time.
He was raised abroad and as soon as he returned to the country, he joined the Watson Group.In ust two short years,he had taken control of most of the company’s core operations with ruthless efficiency.
To be honest,if I were still that wide–eyed girl fresh out of college who still believed in fairy–tale ove…I might have fallen for someone like him.
However,I was not that kind of girl anymore.I was no longer the Emily who would get excited just because a man looked at me.
