“By the way, it was Rachel Moore who hit me. I’m calling the police!”
As I said this, I searched frantically for my phone, but couldn’t find it anywhere.
Jack Harris seemed hesitant.
“Lily, your phone was crushed under the car wheels. I’ll go buy you a new one later, okay?”
Crushed?
Why didn’t it crush his eyes too?
I looked at him and repeated, “I’m calling the police.”
Jack avoided my gaze, seeming guilty, and picked up a banana from the bedside table, peeling it without a word.
“Lily, you just woke up. Why don’t you eat something first?”
“Didn’t you hear me? I’m calling the police. Rachel Moore deliberately ran me over!”
“Be good, eat something first, okay?”
I threw the banana at his face. He remained unfazed, simply wiping it off with a tissue.
“Stop making a scene. Once you’re out of the hospital, we’ll go get our marriage certificate.”
His tone was still so gentle, making me feel like a fool, a clown.
But I had lost my legs, the very thing I had prided myself on.
My dance career was over, abruptly and painfully ended!
I couldn’t stay calm!
“I don’t want to see you. Get out!” I slapped him with all my strength, and a deep red mark quickly appeared on his pale face.
Jack sighed. “If this makes you feel better, I’ll slap myself. Just don’t hurt your hand, okay?”
He had always worn this gentle mask, pulling me deeper into the illusion of love, until I sank too far to escape.
A gentle knife, each cut inching closer to my heart!
I decided to give him one last chance.

Chapter 2
“Jack, it was Rachel who hit me. She’s the one who caused the accident. I’m calling the police!”
“Lily, you just tripped and fell down the stairs. Don’t you remember?” Jack’s tone remained soft, but his words made me laugh bitterly.
“Attempted murder, right? You’re scared your beloved Rachel will go to prison, and yet you’re letting my legs be
destroyed for nothing?”
“You’ve only lost your legs, but Rachel is traumatized too. She’s still in shock and unstable.”
Hearing Jack’s words felt like a knife twisting in my chest. “I’ve only lost my legs?”
“Jack, are you even human?”
“Calm down. I’ll go buy you some food.”
I had been dancing since I was a little girl. My dream had always been to get into the world’s top dance academy.
My parents were always busy with work, and so I was left in the dance studio day in and day out.
From a young age, I would dance in front of the mirror, repeating the same moves over and over, until it became
second nature.
It also made me appear indifferent to everything around me.
When my parents got divorced and were in that car accident the year I turned eighteen, dancing was the only thing that kept me from falling apart.
Until Jack came into my life.
