Chapter 1
Chapter 1
I had just finished my dance class and was about to hail a cab when I saw Jack Harris sitting in a red car.
In the driver’s seat, his ex–girlfriend, Rachel Moore, gave me a mocking smile before kissing Jack on the corner of hi lips.
The next moment, Jack caught my gaze, his expression panicked. Just as we locked eyes, the car’s headlights suddenly blared to life, blinding me with their intense light.”
I instinctively raised my hands to shield my eyes.
“Bang!”
The sudden collision hit me with such force that it felt like an unrelenting wave had slammed into my body!
My legs felt as if the bones were about to shatter, the pain searing through my muscles like a heavy object crushing them.
The agony quickly spread to every corner of my body!
Seeing my white dress stained with blood, I had only one thought: my legs cannot be damaged!
With the last of my consciousness, I reached out toward Jack, pleading for help.
“Jack…”
Just then, dizziness overtook me, yet I still didn’t see Jack get out of the car.
“Jack, what should we do? I hit her!”
“I was too panicked, I mistook the accelerator for the brake!” Rachel’s voice trembled, sounding like a pitiful puppy soaked in rain. Jack’s heart broke as he rushed to hold her, comforting her.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to you.”
I thought the pain in my legs was the worst of it, but hearing Jack’s words made me realize: only a broken heart can kill without shedding blood!
If Jack had just looked at me, he would have seen that my legs were already drowning in blood.
Why, after having Rachel in his heart, did he spend a year pursuing me? My legs were already numb with pain.
I let out a final cry from my throat, “Help… help me…”
Rachel screamed from the other side, “Jack! I don’t want to go to jail!”

Jack hugged her tightly.
“Don’t worry, nothing will happen to you!”
If he had just looked at me, he would have known that I had already lost consciousness from the pain.
I didn’t know how long I had been unconscious. I only remembered the suffocating sensation rushing over me, as if
I were trapped in a dark, endless abyss with no light in sight.
The smell of antiseptic from the hospital snapped me awake with a shock!
“Lily, you’re finally awake!”
“Thank goodness!” Jack’s eyes lit up with joy as he gently patted my head, “Do you know how many days you’ve been unconscious? You must be starving. Let me peel a banana for you?”
His eyes, filled with tenderness, were a stark contrast to the indifference he had shown me that day.
A sense of intense unease washed over me, and only then did I realize why my calf felt empty, devoid of sensation.
I clutched the blanket tightly, my eyes filled with fear and disbelief!
Where are my legs?
Jack’s voice trembled, as though he too was heartbroken.
“When they brought you to the hospital, it was too late… your legs…”
“What did you say?”
“My legs? My legs?” My hands shook uncontrollably, but I couldn’t bring myself to lift the blanket to confirm!
“I’m a dancer, Jack!”
“How am I supposed to dance without my legs?!”
I screamed as if I had lost my mind, and soon, the medical staff rushed in.
“Lily, it’s okay. If you can’t dance, I’ll still take care of you. When you get out of the hospital, we can get married,
okay?”
I felt an overwhelming sense of suffocation. “Marry you? Get out of here, I don’t want to see you!”
“Patient, please maintain your composure. This is a hospital,” the doctor entered and reminded me gently. Seeing that I had woken up, he was about to examine me, but I pushed his hand away, “Go away! Don’t touch my legs”
“I’m sorry, Doctor. She just woke up and can’t accept it yet. Please wait a moment,” Jack’s voice was soft, contrasting sharply with my outburst.

The nurses behind him gave me looks filled with sympathy, envy, and even jealousy.
“Lily, without legs, we can still…”
“What do you mean, ‘without legs we can still I’ve been dancing for 20 years!”
“I just received an invitation from the world’s top dance academy the day before yesterday!”
“And you’re telling me losing my legs doesn’t matter?”
Haha, it felt like I was meeting this so called gentle and wealthy boyfriend for the first time,
It was then that I realized how cold and indifferent he could be,
When he spoke of my legs, it was as if he was talking about something trivial,
At that moment, my heart was completely shattered. For a dancer, losing my legs was no different from losing my
Now, the dream I had pursued for 20 years had been forcibly interrupted. How could I accept that?
I would rather have lost my life!
