Chapter 6
I didn’t understand why my parents were so excited, but I nodded firmly.
If such a man truly existed who would marry me, I wouldn’t have to die.
My parents were people of action, making a call right in front of me, “Alex, it’s so late – why aren’t you here yet? You’ve always come punctually for lunch in previous years!”
After a long hesitation, the other end replied, “I heard Angel was back. I worried coming today might make her
misunderstand…”
“What misunderstanding? Come quickly – today we men won’t stop drinking until we’re drunk.”
I gently tugged Mom’s sleeve, voicing my confusion, “Mom, who is Alex? From how you’re talking, does he come to our house every second day of the New Year?”
By tradition, the second day of the New Year was for visiting the wife’s parents.
But Pete had never come back with me, saying he had to be busy with ancestral worship.
Mom put on her apron, beaming as she assured me, “Angel, let Mom tell you – if you could truly be with Alex, happiness is guaranteed!”
“Before, whenever Mom suggested meeting potential matches, you never gave them a chance.
Today you’ll understand – Alex knew you weren’t married, he’s been waiting for you!”
I lifted my head sharply, my heart pounding.
“Mom, what do you mean he’s been waiting for me?”
The doorbell rang, and Dad hurried to answer.
Mom leaned in close and whispered, “You’ll see for yourself.”
I had imagined all sorts of scenarios, but never expected such a high–quality blind date match.
One look was all it took to leave me dazzled.
This was my first time being so smitten- I couldn’t help but swallow hard several times.
The man set down his various gift boxes and bags, then picked up a small gift box and walked toward me.
“Let me introduce myself. I’m Alexander, and this is a small New Year’s gift for you.”

The name sounded familiar, but I couldn’t quite place where I’d heard it before.
accepted the gift with flushed cheeks. Opening it, I found it was a set of pink gemstone jewelry.
quickly tried to return it: “This is too precious. There’s no need to be so formal just for coming over for dinner.”
As we went back and forth, my palms were covered in sweat.
It’s just a small gift, nothing expensive.”
might have poor judgment in men, but I wasn’t completely clueless about value.
Everything Pete had given me over the years combined wasn’t worth as much as this jewelry set.
Unable to refuse further, I had to accept it.
More importantly, the soul collector had taught me how to tell if a man truly loved me.
desperately needed to verify this.
While my father was chatting with Alexander and my mother was preparing dinner in the kitchen, I rushed to the bathroom alone and removed my gloves.
The corpse spots that had appeared on the plane had indeed faded significantly.
Unless you looked closely, you couldn’t see them at all!
I never imagined my luck could be this good.
I was so excited I nearly let out a groundhog–like squeal in the bathroom.
After carefully fixing my appearance, I went to help my mother in the kitchen, “Mom, do you think Alexander would be scared away if I suggested getting married in the next few days?”
“Not at all. I’d be delighted.”
The deep voice behind me startled me, making my cheeks burn like fire.
My whole body was burning with a sensation that made me feel truly alive.
This was a feeling I hadn’t experienced since my death.
Mom quickly nudged me, signaling me not to stay silent.
Feeling his intense gaze on my back, I slowly turned around and gathered my courage to say, “Can we talk?”
“Of course!”

Mom abandoned her cooking and prepared fruits and afternoon tea, ushering us into dad’s tea room.
Though I wanted to live, I didn’t want to deceive Alexander.
“I had a boyfriend for six years, and I even had an abortion for him…”
I looked straight at Alexander as I laid out my situation.
But he raised his hand to stop my words.
‘I know everything.”
