Chapter 1
Chapter 1
When I opened my eyes again, the alarm brought my consciousness back
In an instant, all that heart–wrenching pain dissipated.
Under everyone’s concerned gazes, I struggled to stand up.
“Miss, are you alright?”
I shook my head, glanced at the surveillance cameras in the distance, and headed to the hospital alone for an abortion.
The doctor tried to persuade me, “The baby would be born in two months. Are you sure you want to do this today? Making such a decision on a day meant for family reunion – isn’t that too impulsive?”
“He’s already dead.”
My child, on this day of family reunions, was killed by his own father.
After examining me, the doctor, grief–stricken, quickly arranged the surgery.
However, when it came time for family signatures, Pete couldn’t be reached.
Instead, I unexpectedly encountered him the next day during my ultrasound follow–up.
Seeing me in a wheelchair, he froze, his hand around Mary’s waist withdrawing as if electrocuted.
“Where have you been gallivanting all night, getting yourself into such a ghastly state?”
He snatched my examination report, his face turning pale as he stared at my flat abdomen, “Angela, you terminated the pregnancy without a word during New Year’s? And here I was, worried sick, searching everywhere for you!”
“What do you take me for?”
His trembling voice made me want to laugh.
Setting off the fire alarm to make Mary smile what did he take me for then?
I ignored his fury and checked my phone to see this supposed “worry” of his.
Turns out during my procedure, he had sent me a single question mark.
Now that he had Mary, I wasn’t even worth more than one character from him.
How noble of him to spare a thought for this breeding tool while embracing his beloved.

Chapter 1
Mark clung to Pete, cooing, “Pete, why are you being so fierce? Look how pale you’ve scared her! She made a rash decision about the baby and it can’t be undone. If you anger her into running away without a word, won’t you end up having to comfort her anyway?”
Of course I was pale – I was nothing more than a walking corpse.
The young nurse, hearing this, spoke up in my defense.
“Sir, we tried calling you but you never answered, and the baby was already dead before she arrived at the hospital…”
Pete pulled out his phone, his expression shifting.
He fiddled with it for a moment, and I instantly understood – fearing I might ruin his plans last night, he had blocked my number.
“Angela, you’re even bribing nurses to cover up your cruel heartlessness? Just yesterday I felt the baby moving – how could it possibly be dead!”
He had completely forgotten what outrageous thing he did last night, but Mary hadn’t.
Her flickering eyes glanced at my stomach, and she hurriedly took out a thermos from her bag.
“Angel, this is bird’s nest soup that Pete just stewed this morning. Drink some to replenish your blood – you look so ghostly it’s frightening! See for yourself…”
I coldly raised my eyes to look directly at her, knocking away both the thermos and mirror.
Mary stumbled back in shock. Pete quickly steadied her, unleashing his fury at me, “Mary means well – how dare you treat her like this? Apologize to her now!”
I stared directly at Pete. My gaze infuriated him, and he moved to drag me from the wheelchair to force an apology.
But when he felt my ice–cold skin, he suddenly let go, causing me to collapse onto the floor.
Concern and pity flashed through his eyes. He couldn’t explain why touching me gave him a heart–wrenching feeling of losing everything.
Out of curiosity, I looked down at the shattered mirror on the floor.
Finally, I saw my face as pale as a ghost.
.
No wonder Pete couldn’t bear to look at me directly anymore.
Looking at the spilled bird’s nest soup, he tenderly consoled Mary, “Mary, I’ll apologize on her behalf! I’ll make you a fresh batch when we get home!”
