Chapter 11

-DAX-

That’s right. He thought. He DID know that she wasn’t Savonnuh. Not because she’d told him, which is what she believed, but because he’d met Savonnuh before

He’d had many long conversations with the selfish woman and knew that she had long blonde hair and was much shorter than the girl in front of him

What he didn’t know was WHY she would do that. He looked at her and waited for her to continue. Talking seemed to follow her wherever she went in his room

So, he was surprised when he watched her eyes roam his face for a moment before pulling away and sitting silently in her chair

Well, don’t stop talking NOW! He mentally tried urging her to continue. If he had been able to get his Wolf to talk with him, he might have been able to call on the power of his Alpha gene and compel her to talk with him

His thoughts were interrupted as the girl stood and began cleaning the room. At least that’s what he assumed. He heard her grunting and then the sound of furniture moving on the tile

Occasionally, the door would open, and a draft would blow through the windows she had opened before it would quickly close

He wasn’t sure how long he lay there, mentally begging her to stop and come back. He was happy at first with the silence, and then curiosity began eating at him, and he wanted to know more about her. Eventually, he began mentally screaming at her and mocking her for her melted face until finally, it moved into what it was now. Pleading and begging

He wanted her voice back. How long had he been treated like he weren’t present? How long had he been ignored

He missed her chatter and attention, and the anxiety was building inside him, from fear of losing that small glimpse of freedom

He felt his stomach begin to burn and his chest tighten. His fingers tingled, and the pressure in his head popped his eardrums until finally a deep raspy moan peeled from his mouth and echoed around the room

Instantly, she was at his side. Her hands were everywhere, and her questions bombarded him. She slid her cold fingers over his face and lifted the blanket to check his legs. All the while talking faster than any human he’d ever heard before

What happened? Why did you scream?! Was that a scream? Did you scream? You didn’t move, so maybe it was

wind? But I heard it come from you, it had to come from you. What happened? Damnit, I can’t find anything. Master! What’s wrong!”

When her slew of questions stopped, she’d made it back to his face and was staring intently into his eyes. Are you okay? She paused and stared at him, waiting

He hadn’t expected to make a noise. He just wanted, so badly, to get her attention. So shocked at his outburst that it took him a moment to realize she was waiting for him to blink his response

Two blinks. Yes

In an exhale of relief, she slid into the seat and covered her chest with her hand before taking a few more breaths

Without sitting forward, she asked, Are you cold?”

One blink. No.

Hungry?”

One blink. No.

He felt the bed compress as she sat down beside him. The last person to do such a thing was his mother, but he squashed all thought of her before it had a chance to settle in

The girl was looking down at him, and as she came into view, a feeling overtook his insides as her warmth began seeping into his side. She leaned closer to him, bringing on butterflies, something he’d never experienced before

Did-She paused a moment. Did you only wish to get my attention?”
