The last thread of his sanity suddenly snapped.
Dylan roared and lunged at the employee, punching and kicking him.
“Why is she like this? What did you do to my sister?”
The employee wailed in protest.
“It’s not our fault! The deceased signed the organ donation agreements herself before she came. When she arrived, her organs were almost completely harvested!”
These words enraged Dylan even more, and he started to seriously harm him.
It wasn’t until Michael, afraid that someone would be killed, pulled the two apart.
Dylan panted heavily, his face, usually rugged and rebellious, was now tear–streaked.
His hands trembled as he stumbled forward.
He embraced my broken body.
“Big brother’s here, don’t be scared. No one can hurt you.”
I looked at my own body, my heart filled with mixed emotions.
Before I was seven, Dylan had always been good to me, of course.
But after Chloe came to this family, Dylan couldn’t stand me, and his favoritism knew no
bounds.
Now, I finally saw Dylan’s concern for me, but I was already dead.
Death is final. Once you’re dead… everything is gone.

Michael didn’t even dare to approach my body. He slowly turned his back, silently weeping.
His hand repeatedly caressed the watch I had once given him.
Mom had collapsed to the floor the moment the white sheet was pulled back.
Her eyes were hollow, yet they seemed to be fixated on the body, as if trying to stare a hole through me.
After a while, she suddenly laughed.
“You’re all mistaken. This isn’t Audrey. My daughter is five feet seven! This shorty is not my daughter!”
Saying that, Mom, disregarding her dignity, scrambled closer and forcefully pulled back
the sheet.
After she saw the body clearly, her smile froze.
My lower body, below the knees, was completely empty.
The grisly amputated stumps indicated the immense suffering its owner had endured.
“No!!”
Mom, shocked, went limp and instantly fainted.
Chaos ensued.
Dad’s normally straight back suddenly hunched over, making him look ten years older.
Fortunately, he managed to maintain his composure and simultaneously called an
ambulance and the police.
Dad approached my body, step by step, stiff and slow.
Looking at my face, with eyes forever closed, he reached out his hand, as if to touch my
face.

But in mid–air, he cowardly pulled his hand back.
He closed his eyes. For a long time, tears could no longer be held back and streamed
from his eyes.
“Audrey, Dad won’t let you die without knowing the truth.”
“No matter who hurt you, Dad won’t let them get away with it!”
The family reunited at the hospital.
Mom was rushed into the emergency room, while Dad and my two brothers waited outside.
The emergency room doors opened, and the doctor removed his mask.
“The patient had a heart transplant recently. Even if it’s a heart donated by a direct family member, intense emotional fluctuations after surgery can lead to recurrence.”
Dad’s face changed dramatically. His lips trembled.
“Doctor, are you saying… my wife’s heart was donated by a direct family member?”
The doctor looked annoyed. “I’m sorry, I cannot disclose that information. The donor strongly requested anonymity before passing.”
He then left in a hurry.
Dad stood rooted to the spot, muttering to himself.
“The heart in my wife’s chest… was secretly donated by our daughter?”
“So that’s it, it was like this all along?”
Dad suddenly lost all strength in his body and knelt to the floor.
The usually composed and serious middle–aged man beat his chest in regret.
“What have I done?”

“Audrey, your father let you down. Your father failed to protect you!”
“You weren’t a jinx. It was all of us who let you down.”
I looked at Dad crying and turned my head away, unable to bear it.
Actually, at first, I didn’t want them to feel indebted.
I only wished for them to live peaceful lives.
But later, their actions truly chilled me to the bone.
Those hurts, they couldn’t be erased by a few apologies.
Dad was immersed in his grief. No matter how Michael and Dylan tried to comfort him, he couldn’t calm down.
Until Chloe, wearing a hospital gown, rushed over.
When she saw Dad kneeling on the floor, her surprise flashed across her eyes, quickly
replaced by concern.
“Dad, why are you sitting on the floor?”
Chloe placed her hand on Dad’s shoulder and continued.
“This time, Audrey really went too far, she made Mom so angry she ended up in the
hospital.”
“Mom just had surgery, she can’t get too emotional. The doctor said it might recur. Audrey causing all this trouble is simply thoughtless!”
“If something happens to Mom, there won’t be a second heart! Audrey, she…”
Dad abruptly shook off Chloe, who was still spouting manipulative words.
“Shut up!”
Chloe fell to the floor, her face a mixture of hurt and shock.

Seeing this, Dylan immediately helped Chloe up and spoke up to defend her.
“Dad, no matter how sad you are, you can’t take it out on Chloe. This isn’t her fault!”
Dad was so furious he cursed loudly.
“Idiot! Your sister is Audrey! Do you have any respect for your deceased sister? All the
sacrifices she made for you…”
Dad choked up mid–sentence, suddenly clutching his chest as if gasping for breath.
Just then, Mom was wheeled out of the emergency room.
Everyone had to temporarily set aside their arguments to attend to Mom.
But when Mom woke up, lying in the hospital bed, she stared wide–eyed, silently
weeping.
No matter who spoke to her, she didn’t seem to hear.
It wasn’t until the autopsy report, which Dad had arranged for, came back.
No one dared to look at it, so they asked the nurse to read it for them.
The nurse’s face showed pity. “Upon forensic examination, the deceased is nineteen years old, her torso is incomplete, and her lower legs suffered compound fractures from a high–altitude fall. It was determined she underwent amputation surgery below the knee. The cause of death was post–operative wound infection.”
Hearing “high–altitude fall,” Dad’s eyes reddened again, and he shed tears of regret.
I knew he had guessed.
A month ago, Dad nearly fell down the stairs. I deliberately stepped in to break his fall, so
Dad was unharmed.
But the System said that Dad’s original fate was to die from a high–altitude fall.

So, if I wanted Dad to live, I had to die for him.
I agreed.
After I arrived at the hospital, the wound on my leg rapidly deteriorated.
Mom’s heart condition also flared up at that moment, so I immediately signed the agreement to donate my heart.
I secretly threw away the medication the hospital prescribed, ready to embrace death.
“The deceased’s body is missing one kidney, and no spleen or heart were found. Her uterus showed puncture wounds, indicating she had no reproductive function before
death.”
The nurse sighed. “Actually, I knew this girl. She came to the hospital every few days. After her last surgery, she left a sealed letter of last wishes at the hospital, saying it might be needed later.”
“The young lady had arranged everything, but she never expected the funeral home wouldn’t receive payment, and she hasn’t been buried peacefully for a month.”
