Chapter 7
“Mr. Reynolds, we’ve identified the company that poached our projects. It’s an overseas firm with an
American owner named Lowe. He graduated from the same high school as you. Do you know him?”
Knox froze mid–step, his brows instantly knotting.
“Hayden Lowe?”
“Yes, that’s him. Do you two have some history? He’s never been involved in domestic business
before–this is his first time. Somehow he got hold of our internal documents.”
“We still need time to investigate the mole. I’ll do my best.”
Knox turned the word “history” over in his mind.
After a long moment, he let out a bitter laugh.
Hayden Lowe. After ten years, he still hadn’t given up.
Back in school, Hayden had been his friend until he fell for Raven at first sight.
Knox hadn’t even confessed to Raven yet when Hayden declared he wanted fair competition for her
heart.
Furious, Knox had used the excuse of delivering homework assignments to rush to my home that
very day.
Then everything happened, and by the next day, everyone knew we were together.
Knox had assumed Hayden would back off, but after graduation night, he accidentally overheard Hayden telling Raven that if Knox ever wronged her, he wouldn’t mind picking up the pieces.
That comment had kept Knox anxious and sleepless for a month, until he heard Hayden’s family had arranged for him to go abroad. Only then did he relax.
Now, ten years later, Hayden had returned.
Thinking of Raven’s uncharacteristic coldness and determination to divorce, Knox called Hayden
directly, barely containing his rage.

“Raven wanting a divorce–was that your idea?”
“Hayden, don’t push it!”
“You’re interfering in our marriage. Haven’t seen you for ten years, and your skin’s gotten thicker!”
Hayden ignored his threats, his tone mocking.
“Is that so? Thanks for the compliment. Haven’t you heard that the one who isn’t loved is the true
interloper?”
“Actually, I should thank you for giving me this opportunity. If you hadn’t strayed, Raven might
never have contacted me.”
After a long silence, Hayden spoke softly:
“Knox, I gave you your chance, and you wasted it.”
“You can’t blame me now. She deserves the best, and you–you don’t deserve her.”
The call ended abruptly.
Outside, night had fallen, leaving the room in darkness.
In the silence, Knox could almost hear his own suffocating heartbeat.
He couldn’t believe Raven had truly abandoned him for Hayden.
Memories flooded in like a tide, drowning all reason.
Knox walked step by step to the liquor cabinet and downed an entire bottle in one go.
As the alcohol hit, he instinctively called out, “Raven.”
But the hand that once took his glass would never appear again.
At dawn, he was awakened by a call from a business partner.
“Mr. Reynolds, sorry, we’ll have to postpone our collaboration. Someone’s offering the same proposal at thirty percent less. I’m sure you understand.”
Knox jolted awake.

Before he could explain, the call had already ended.
Then one business partner after another called in.
Without exception, they all wanted to cancel their partnerships.
The only accommodating client offered a condition–if Raven would personally handle the project,
they might consider continuing.
But Knox couldn’t agree because he had no idea where Raven was.
Overnight, everything had changed.
He’d assumed this situation would drag on for at least a week, given how far off the project start
dates were.
But after ten consecutive calls, he understood–this was all Hayden’s doing.
This was all his revenge.
