My gaze fell on the gift box, and I reached over to unwrap it.
Inside lay a pitiful 1–gram lipstick, tiny and underwhelming.
Just then, my phone displayed an advertisement for the brand. This miniature item was actually a free gift with their Valentine’s Day collection.
I almost laughed at my own insignificance.
Seeing my unimpressed reaction, Knox’s face tightened as he struggled to justify the gift. “I know you rarely wear makeup. Do you have any idea how hard it was to find this size? I searched every major brand. Stop being difficult.”
I ignored his excuses.
Just then, the medication reminder on my phone chimed, and I began taking pills by the handful.
Knox’s expression shifted instantly as he snatched the medicine bottle away.
“What the hell are you doing? Don’t you know you can’t take random medications while pregnant?”
Noticing my blank expression, Knox softened his tone–a rare occurrence–and tossed the lipstick
aside.
“Fine, fine. If you don’t like the shade, throw it out. I’ll buy you a different one, okay?”
“Raven, you’re not just thinking for yourself now. Getting upset could affect the baby’s development.”
In response, I placed the pre–printed divorce papers on the table.
“The agreement’s ready. Sign it when you have time.”
“And I don’t have the energy to cater to your little secretary. If you’re so keen on pampering her, just hire her a nanny.”
Hearing the word “divorce,” his face darkened immediately, and he shot to his feet.
“Divorce? Are you kidding me? All because I glanced at Marlow during the press conference?”

“She’s just my secretary. You’re the one who hired her into the company in the first place! If something was going on, it would have happened long ago. Can you please stop this nonsense?”
Having said this, his eyes dropped to my stomach, and he sighed in resignation.
“Look, I get it–pregnancy hormones make emotions unstable. I’m trying my best to accommodate you, but don’t push it too far.”
As he spoke, he walked further into the room, his dress shoes leaving dirty marks all over the carpet I’d just cleaned.
I almost reflexively reminded him about it–just like I always did.
But I caught myself, swallowing the words and offering a self–deprecating smile instead.
He was always like this–dismissing my efforts, taking my dedication for granted.
Now that I was leaving, his behavior was no longer my concern.
I looked up at him and nodded calmly.
“Yes, it’s because you looked at her. Isn’t that reason enough?”
“Knox, before we got married, I told you I wouldn’t tolerate any betrayal. You’ve changed, and
there’s no point in continuing this charade.”
Knox’s brow furrowed deeply, anger about to erupt.
Before he could speak, I added:
“And the baby? Already terminated. Don’t worry–it won’t be an obstacle for you two.”
“I won’t be competing with your precious Marlow for company shares either.”
“Sign the papers when you can and mail them to me. The address is right there.”
Without waiting for his response, I turned and walked away, ignoring his frozen figure.
The next second, his anguished shout echoed behind me:
‘Raven Vale! If you walk out that door today, don’t even think about coming back!”

He’d used that same threat to control me for ten years.
Before, I’d constantly bowed my head, repeatedly apologized.
But in return, I’d received no understanding–only his increasing demands.
This time, his words only made me walk faster. He expected me to turn around and apologize like I always had
