Chapter 11
To Martin’s dismay, the emails from his collaborative partners were right in the trash folder, and they were sent when he couldn’t make it to his phone in time. More importantly, Alessa was the only person who used his phone last night.
Anger swelled up in his chest. She didn’t know a thing, and yet she deleted his work emails without asking. Losing this project would mean a loss of 10% profit for Quinlan Group, at
least.
What was more, it was baffling how Jasmine didn’t inform him about today’s important meeting. In the past, she would’ve gotten everything prepared in the morning, even if the emails
had been sent.
He would never have lost the collaborative partners that easily
if she hadn’t been sulking over something trivial.
Martin dialed Jasmine’s number, intending to question her, but she didn’t answer her phone. No matter how many times he called, the only response he got was a mechanical voice telling him the number was unreachable.
A wave of panic rose in his chest. Something popped into his mind, and he tapped on his phone screen again. Eventually, he found the text Jasmine sent him, deleted and forgotten. It was sent last night as well.

He restored it, and the message popped up on his screen. What he saw made his eyes sting.
“I’ve been secretly in love with you for eight years, and I’ve had a ludicrous relationship with you for four years, but it all
ends now.
“Mr. Quinlan, from here on out, I’m no longer your assistant, nor do I love you anymore. Let’s each go back to our own lives and never see each other ever again.”
He couldn’t explain what he was feeling now. Seeing this text should’ve made him feel relieved—Jasmine had finally moved on from him. As he had said to her, she had stopped obsessing
over her.

Martin couldn’t help but recall the memories he shared with
Jasmine.
Four years ago, something unexpected happened, and they slept together.
Back then, Alessa was the only person he cared about. All he could think of was sending Jasmine away with some money. It had never crossed his mind to start a relationship with her.
However, Jasmine’s eyes were big and bright, and they were

laced with a timidity that reminded him of a puppy’s. It was
hard for him to reject her. So, he had no choice but to allow things to develop the way they did.
They had been intimate with each other in every place one could think of. Every little spot was filled with the hot, passionate memories of them indulging in carnal pleasure.
In the past four years, Jasmine was the best assistant Martin had, and she was also the best sex partner he had.

Never once had she asked for anything. All she did was let him do absolutely everything he wanted to her. She might not have
any official status, but she was content with what she had.
For countless times now, Martin had thought her a naive fool.
He merely showed Jasmine a sliver of kindness, and yet she gave everything she had to him.
He told her not to fantasize about a future with him. His heart
belonged to Alessa and no one else. Now, his wish finally came true—he was rid of the clingy woman. So, why? Why wasn’t he as thrilled as he thought he would be?
Martin’s gaze lingered on his phone for a long time. At one
point, he finally decided to drop the matter.
Jasmine had left, and that was that. They each had their own
paths to tread in life.
Putting his phone down, he stopped looking at it and held

Alessa in his arms, drifting off to sleep once more.

Martin needed to suppress the displeasure in his heart. So, he
took several days off, postponing his work, and took Alessa on leisure trips. No matter what she wanted, be it jewelry or
custom–made dresses, he bought them without hesitation.
The thing was, he didn’t get what he bargained for. The more he did it, the more restless he became, his eyes constantly
laced with an impatience that he just couldn’t get rid of.
Alessa was completely oblivious to his feelings. She was way too engrossed in the leisure trip.
As Martin waited for her, he couldn’t help but take his phone
out and open his chat window with Jasmine. The last text he received from her was from a month ago. Ever since Alessa returned to Corvalis, he had never contacted her again.
An impulse stirred within him, and he slowly composed a message before sending it to Jasmine.
“You can come back and be my assistant again anytime.”
Martin’s saving grace was stopped by a big, flashy red exclamation mark next to his text, never reaching Jasmine.
This was the first time she blocked him in all the years they had been together.
“Martin, sorry to keep you waiting. Let’s watch the aurora
tomorrow, okay?” Alessa had changed into a gorgeous dress as

she looped her arm around his and acted coquettishly.
Martin locked his phone, not showing any emotions in his expression. But he wasn’t in the mood to appreciate her beauty, either.
“I have to return to Quinlan Group tomorrow. I’ve been absent from work for a long time, and my work has piled up. Once I’m through with them, I’ll go on another trip with you again, alright?”
As CEO, he had to make crucial decisions and attend important meetings. He had been pushing it, taking several off days on end. While he kept Alessa company, Quinlan Group had been losing profit by the day.
She immediately frowned, clearly displeased. She could do nothing but pout. “Fine, but I’m going with you. I’ll give you a hand with your work, Martin.”
Alessa flashed him a sweet smile, bringing a trace of warmth to his heart, enough to make him forget about Jasmine.
