I left without looking back.
Blake was getting a massive headache.
“I went through all the trouble of getting her here for you, and you can’t swallow your pride and talk properly?”
Dylan’s face was stone cold: “Mind your own business! Next time, even if I’m dead, don’t bother calling her.”
Blake was exasperated.
“Next time? What next time! If you really want to win her back, why are you being so stubborn? I’ve never understood this – you’re always so composed dealing with everyone and everything else, so
why do you act like a kid who never grew up around Claire?”
Dylan turned his head toward the window and went silent.
He didn’t know either.
He wanted to talk properly, he wanted to humble himself.
But facing Claire, he just felt inexplicably wronged.
Even though he was the one in the wrong, he still felt wronged.
Like Claire was supposed to forgive him unconditionally, no questions asked.
Dylan was panicking.
From the moment he saw Claire at the airport, he’d been in constant turmoil.

Dylan regretted it the moment the words left his mouth.
He’d warned Blake over and over not to repeat what he’d said, or they’d stop being friends.
He was almost too ashamed to face Claire.
The shame, the humiliation.
Dylan knew this broken relationship deserved to be thrown away.
He was just terrified.
Peach had come looking for him more than once.
She’d cry and say Claire was bullying her.
“I got papers from a lawyer saying I have to return all the money you gave me. You gave me those things, why should she get them back? Dylan, are you just going to let her bully me like this?”
Dylan thought it was pretty funny when he heard that.
Actually, Claire had always been like this – she held grudges, remembered every slight.
If Peach hadn’t tried to frame her, Claire might never have thought to go after that money.
Just like Claire said.
If she really wanted to destroy Peach, she could get her expelled.
Peach still wanted to be with Dylan.
She figured since Dylan was getting divorced, she could naturally become the official girlfriend.

Dylan could be with anyone except her.
She was a witness to Dylan’s messy life and stupid mistakes.
Like the wrong things Dylan had done, she was a stain.

He told Peach to stop coming around, or he’d come collecting too.
Peach left in a rage.

He used it to numb himself.

Claire seemed to be doing well, still confident and spirited.
Dylan watched her leave.
She suddenly turned back.
‘Dylan, apologize to me!”
Dylan’s hands were shaking in his pockets.
