I stared in shock as I watched Rex and Raven pressed against the stairwell wall, bodies intertwined, kissing

desperately

Raven had one leg wrapped around his waist, her face showing the comfortable, uninhibited smile

They looked like longtime partners who’d been sneaking around so long they no longer needed words

My hands trembled as I tried to turn off the screen, but I couldn’t move

My stomach churned violently. I fought back the metallic taste of blood rising in my throat, but tears streamed down my face uncontrollably

Rex was a university professor, always refined and composed, speaking with politeness and restraint. Even though he and Raven, his childhood friend, were close, I had never truly suspected anything

He called her his lifelong friend who grew up with him, said her family was poor, that no one cared for her, and

asked me to look after her

And I did care for herhad meals with her, listened to her cry, did everything I could to help Rex look after her for three years

Over these years, she’d barely graduated but was covered in luxury brands she couldn’t afford. When she couldn’t pay her credit card bills, Rex covered them

I argued with him about it

But each time, Rex would say: Poor Raven has no parents, she’s all alone. Besides, I’m using my own money to help

her, not yours!”

I’d seen his bank statements multiple times, noticing monthly transfers of $50,000 to Raven

Then, Rex would apologize profusely and promise not to do it again next month, and somehow the issue would fade away, everytime

Six months ago, Raven said she was going to Vegas for graduate school, and Rex used his retirement savings as

collateral for a $5 million loan for her

When I casually questioned it, I endured six months of his silent treatment

I thought this wedding anniversary trip was a sign we were reconciling. Instead, it was his calculated betrayal

All these years, I believed I’d married a stable, reliable mana principled, responsible university professor

Looking back now, my entire life was just one big joke

In the hallway, Raven moaned Oh, Rexy baby, her voice sweet as poison

Rex held her responding with a passion each time, his eyes filled with a light I’d never seen directed at me

Nash watched my face, his lips curling into a ruthless smile

So this is your precious Professor Charming the man you threw me away for,”

I stared fixedly at the video until tears blurred my vision

Those two familiar, disgusting faces, those conversations treating me like an objectit felt like a blade piercing my

heart

Wash kissed my eyes, his voice a breathy whisper

Leave him. Come back to me, won’t you?”

raised my hand to Nash’s neck, biting down hard on his shoulder as I surrendered to his frenzy

I want themruined. I want them to destroy each other!”

The next morning when I woke up, my entire body ached as if I’d been crushed

Vash wasn’t beside me. The curtains were partially open, with sunlight slanting into the room. I instinctively

eached toward the nightstand, hoping to find something to help put myself back together, when I heard my phone

vibrate

A text message popped up

Your savings account balance: $0

Vext came a second message, a third, and then over a dozen transaction alertsall card charges

tex had completely cleaned out every last cent in my bank account

Knock, knock.”

When the tapping came, I was gripping my phone with white knuckles, staring silently at the message screen

The door opened

lex stood in the doorway with a fake smile plastered on his face. Beside him stood Raven in a spaghetti strap dress, wearing no makeup, her hair slightly disheveledlooking like she’d just crawled out of some man’s arms

JuniRex stepped in, his tone maddeningly calm

I grabbed the lamp from beside me and hurled it at him!

Crash!”

Rex stood there, his eyes flickering for a moment, showing a brief flash of guilt

But he quickly changed his expression, his tone suddenly impatient

Why are you being so dramatic? It was just one night with a guy, and it cleared a twentymilliondollar gambling

debt.”

Stop acting so high and mighty. However you look at it; you came out ahead in this deal.”
