“Mr. Henry, your wife’s external injuries are fine, but the fetus is already five months along and developing small. She needs hospitalization for monitoring.”
Henry froze in place, his ears buzzing.
five months?
He had clearly gone to London to find Chloe three months ago.
This child wasn’t his!
Juable to hear what else the doctor said, Henty turned and rushed toward the hospital room.
‘Chloe!” he roared furiously. “Why did you lie to me!”
The woman in the bed looked up in panic, her pale face still streaked with undried tears.
‘Henry, I don’t know what you’re talking about?”
le suddenly felt nauseated.
Three months ago, she had used this same helpless, fragile act to lure him into bed.
Henry took a deep breath, his chest heaving violently:
You said you were only with that man because he was terminally ill, that you were keeping him company through
is final days, that you didn’t sleep together!”
Chloe’s eyelashes trembled violently as tears slid down:
Henry, he forced me. I didn’t want to either.”
Henry laughed coldly:
He was so sick he couldn’t even get out of bed–how did he force you?! Chloe, is there a single word of truth in your
nouth?!”
His finger trembled as he pointed at her belly, his voice hoarse:
You know what? Even without this child, I would have taken care of you for life! I said you’re my ex–wife, my esponsibility!”
‘But why did you lie to me?! Making me take responsibility for this child, making me… lose Leila!”

Chloe looked at him blankly:
“Lose Leila? You don’t like her anyway–what does it matter?”
“Who said I don’t like her?!” Henry clenched his fists tight, practically shouting.
After shouting, Henry himself was stunned.
Panic filled his heart as his voice gradually softened: “People’s feelings can change.”
Or maybe they never changed at all.
At first, he said I was his one true love just to placate me.
After all, with just those casual words, I could be happy for an entire day.
Later, he gradually began saying it with genuine sincerity, appearing especially earnest each time.
I was so wonderful–of course I deserved his love.
Chloe’s eyes filled with sorrow:
“Henry, three years ago we’d known each other less than a month when you begged me to marry you, saying you’d
already decided. Was that my imagination?”
“You always talk about responsibility toward me. Setting aside responsibility, I just want to ask one question–did
you ever love me?”
This question struck Henry directly. He began to remember.
Three years ago, Chloe was a hardworking international student who had earned a full scholarship through her
own efforts.
She was optimistic, cheerful, full of ambition, never letting anyone or any rules constrain her.
Unlike me–he had always thought my parents were forcing me to marry someone I didn’t like, yet I never complained once.
seemed to have no temper, no stance, always so compliant it was infuriating.
But he didn’t know that all of this was simply because I liked him.
Henry didn’t see it that way though. He didn’t want to silently accept everything like me, becoming a tool for his grandfather to repay a debt of gratitude.
So his first act of rebellion in life was marrying Chloe in London after knowing her less than a month.
“Henry!” Chloe suddenly raised her voice, choking out: “Is even answering this question so difficult?”

Her fingertips dug deep into her palms. She already had her answer.
Such a simple question of whether he loved her or not, and he had been silent for a full five minutes.
“Maybe. Briefly loved.” Henry finally spoke, his voice terrifyingly calm.
On the third day after their marriage, he had regretted it.
That night, he had deliberately let something slip at a family gathering, letting the news reach his grandfather…
All these years, he had kept emphasizing his responsibility toward Chloe, but it was actually just to mask his inner guilt.
Because of guilt, he decided to give her a child, favoring her again and again, while leaving my heart completely
shattered.
Chloe suddenly knelt on the ground: “Henry, please don’t say things in anger.”
Henry turned around and said calmly:
“Chloe, go back to London. Don’t contact me anymore.”
Heart–wrenching sobs came from behind him, but his steps didn’t hesitate for a moment.
People must pay the price for their actions.
He thought it still wasn’t too late.
