Chapter 3
Henry’s chest heaved violently, his eyes bloodshot.
“If she dies, I’ll hold you responsible!”
Sharp pain shot through my left cheek, but it paled compared to the tearing agony in my heart.
Five years together, and this was the first time he’d laid a hand on me.
Whenever Chloe was involved, the usually composed and elegant Henry instantly became cold, furious, and
ruthless.
I suddenly felt utterly drained: “Henry, you’ve hit me, yelled at me… enough. Let’s break up.”
“We’re not even married anyway. I wasn’t the one who said those wedding vows–this whole thing is just a cruel joke.”
His face froze instantly, then he pulled me into a tight embrace.
“Leila, stop being angry. I know the marriage certificate is important to you. We’ll get it done soon, okay?”
“Chloe won’t live here forever. Once she finds someone suitable, she’ll move out. Two years at most–trust me.”
“She’s beautiful and kind, with plenty of suitors. Finding someone won’t be a problem.”
“But I need to screen them carefully. She’s too naive, and with a child… she could easily be taken advantage of…”
I cut him off coldly: “No need to look. You care about her so much, and you’re the child’s biological father–you’re
her best choice.”
His entire body stiffened. He released me abruptly, a mocking smile playing at his lips: “You think I can’t live without you? You were the one who chased after me, begging me to marry you!”
I lowered my head and said quietly: “Yes, I deserve this.”
Our marriage had been arranged by James’s grandfather, because my father had saved his life on the operating table twenty years ago. Though Father joked about it, he never took it seriously.
“My precious daughter should marry someone she truly loves.”
But I fell for Henry without any resistance.
Three years ago, he went to study in Germany and married Chloe–gentle, strong, independent, and somewhat poor–in Las Vegas.

Chapter 3
When I learned about it, I immediately proposed breaking off our engagement.
But he knelt before me, eyes red with tears, pleading: “Leila, I only love you. I’ve already divorced her–please forgive me this once.”
I was soft–hearted then… I really regret it now.
“Henry, Leila’s still young. Being immature is normal. You should be more patient. Unlike me–I’m used to sacrificing myself for others.”
Chloe stood at the door with her suitcase, forcing a smile as she waved at us.
“I’m leaving now. You don’t need to see me off.”
“Get out of the way!”
Henry snapped harshly, shoving me aside as he rushed after Chloe.
I lost my footing and tumbled heavily down the stairs.
Excruciating pain swept through my body. My vision blurred, and sharp agony shot through my limbs and head.
Yet Henry stepped right over me without even looking back.
He frantically embraced Chloe, his voice trembling: “Chloe! You have no one to rely on here. Where can you go while pregnant? Are you trying to destroy me?”
Chloe stubbornly wiped away her tears, forcing a smile: “I can take care of myself. If not… there are plenty of men out there. Someone will be willing to help us.”
“No!” Henry interrupted angrily, gripping her hand tightly as he pulled her back.
As they passed by me, Chloe feigned concern: “Should we call a doctor for Leila? She looks badly hurt.”
Henry glanced at me coldly, dismissively saying: “No need. She’s a doctor–she can handle it herself.”
