Chapter 2
“I told you, we have servants to cock. You’re pregnant now–how can you be in the kitchen?”
Chloe lowered her head and dabbed at her eyes, saying softly. “But… you always loved my cooking the most. I noticed you’ve gotten so thin these past two years since coming back…”
Henry immediately felt sorry for her and gently wiped away her tears: “Alright, with you home taking care of me I’ll get better soon
Then he turned to me with a smile: “Leila, come try Chice’s cooking I haven’t had her food in two years–I really
missed it.”
I saw the tenderness in his eyes–not for the food, but for the person who made it.
No wonder every time I cooked these past two years, he always said he had no appetite.
It wasn’t because the taste was wrong
It was because he only wanted to eat Chloe’s cooking
A bitter ache filled my chest as I headed straight for the bedroom. “I’m tired. I’m going to rest.”
Chloe blinked helplessly, tears welling up again: “Henry does Leila not like me?”
Of course, Henry couldn’t stand seeing her hurt. His expression darkened instantly. “Stop right there!
‘Chloe already worked so hard standing in as your bride today, and she made dinner too. Instead of being grateful, you’re taking your anger out on her?”
‘Grateful?” I laughed coldly. “You abandoned me before the wedding to pick her up, had her wear my wedding iress. Now you two are all lovey–dovey in front of me, and you even have a baby together! Henry, why don’t you just leave with her? Why keep pretending to care about me?”
I already explained about the wedding!” Henry roared. “Why bring it up again? Are you trying to humiliate Chloe?”
Chloe rushed over and grabbed my hand: “Leila, Henry and I have known each other for so long… we’re like family now. I really didn’t notice these details.”
“Even with the baby, I don’t have any romantic feelings for him. Otherwise, why would we have divorced?”
Without waiting for my response, she turned to Henry with a forced smile: “I didn’t realize Leila minded our past so much. Maybe I should move out?”
“I promised when we divorced that I wouldn’t interfere… You can visit the child occasionally and just pay child support on time!”

Chapter 2
She sat down and picked up the couple’s dinnerware Henry and I had bought together, mechanically taking a bite of
salad.
Tears streamed down her face as she quickly wiped them with the back of her hand, choking out: “Don’t worry, Leila, I’ll leave after eating… staying in a hotel is fine.”
Before she finished speaking, she suddenly vomited violently, crying so hard she could barely breathe: “Baby, I’m sorry, Daddy’s new wife doesn’t like us. Mommy tried her best, but I can’t give you a complete family…”
Henry immediately rushed over and pulled her into his arms, comforting her gently,
Then he looked up at me with blame and disgust in his eyes: “Leila, what exactly do you want? Will you only be satisfied when you drive Chloe to her death?”
I didn’t respond and headed upstairs.
But Henry suddenly caught up and blocked my path.
He grabbed his hair in frustration: “Chloe and I are just like family–there’s no romantic love between us. Why do you have to obsess over this?”
“Family?” I laughed coldly. “Do family members have babies together? Henry, do you think I’m an idiot?”
He frowned, reluctantly explaining: “When Chloe’s boyfriend died, she nearly chose suicide! I gave her a child to give her the courage to keep living!”
Suddenly, he grabbed my wrist.
“Leila, your Everly family has worked in medicine for generations–you have compassion. You wouldn’t really be heartless enough to watch someone die, would you?”
“Just consider it saving Chloe’s life. Stop obsessing over this, okay?”
I yanked my hand away with a sarcastic smile: “I am heartless. I do want her dead–only then will you stop thinking
about her.”
SLAP!
He struck me hard across the face.
