The light glinted off Elise’s knife, reflecting in Caroline’s terrified eyes.
“Die, you bitch!!” she screamed.
As Elise lunged with the blade, both Lucas and Aiden rushed to shield Caroline.
Lucas pulled Caroline into his arms while Aiden jumped in front of her, taking the knife meant for
her.
Caroline was so shocked she couldn’t process what was happening, even as Lucas held her protectively.
Everyone in the restaurant froze in horror.
When her first strike failed, Elise tried to pull the knife out to attack again. But security guards
tackled her.
“Call 911!”
“Someone’s been stabbed!”
The restaurant erupted into chaos.
Waitstaff frantically pulled out phones to call for an ambulance.
“Caroline, are you okay?” Lucas asked, looking down at her pale face.
Finally snapping back to reality, Caroline quickly checked Lucas for injuries.
“I’m fine, baby,” he reassured her, holding her close.
Seeing Caroline unharmed but Aiden wounded, Elise tried to yank the knife from his body to make another attempt at Caroline.
Lucas noticed and pinned her to the ground.
Restrained but unrepentant, Elise burst into maniacal laughter.

“This is all your fault. You ruined everything. Both of you!”
Aiden woke up in a hospital. He struggled to sit up, desperately searching the room for Caroline. But
she wasn’t there.
A nurse heard the commotion and entered. “Please don’t move–you’ll tear your stitches.”
“Has a woman come to see me?” Aiden asked urgently.
The nurse thought for a moment. “Yes.”
Aiden finally relieved.
If Caroline had visited him, it wouldn’t be long before she forgave him. Taking that knife for her was
worth it.
Two days passed with no sign of Caroline, though David sent someone with health supplements.
When David’s assistant arrived with another package, Aiden demanded, “Where’s Caroline?”
“I’m sorry, I’m just delivering these. I don’t know anyone named Caroline.”
Aiden knocked the supplements to the floor. “Tell her to come see me!”
The startled assistant muttered “fuck” under his breath as he fled.
Later that day, the door creaked open again.
Aiden looked up eagerly, “Caroline?” But his face hardened when he saw Lucas instead.
‘Why are you here? Where’s Caroline?”
Lucas sat in the chair beside the bed and studyed Aiden.
‘You saved Caroline. Professor Flores said he doesn’t want to see you, so he sent me to check on you.”
Aiden glared at him. “You kept her from me, didn’t you?”
‘I’m not you. I’d never force Caroline to do anything.”
Aiden sneered at Lucas’s moral high ground.

“I saved her. Elise won’t be in our lives anymore. Caroline and I were together for years. We had a child together. You can’t compete with that.”
Lucas looked at Aiden, finding him both pitiful and ridiculous.
“You have the nerve to mention that child?”
Lucas had heard Caroline’s whole story. He didn’t care about her past–he only regretted not being
with her sooner.
“If you hadn’t rekindled things with Elise and repeatedly hurt Caroline because of her, would she have terminated a five–month pregnancy?”
“You claim you were married for years and loved her deeply. Then how did you sign divorce papers
without even realizing it?”
Aiden protested heatedly, “That wasn’t my fault! Elise–she-”
Lucas looked at Aiden’s complete lack of self–awareness.
“This is all on you. Elise was just your scapegoat. She didn’t force you to date with her. She didn’t
make you pine for her throughout your marriage to Caroline. And she certainly didn’t make you sign those divorce papers.”
Lucas said like delivering a final verdict.
“Aiden, you destroyed your own happiness yourself.”
Seeing Aiden’s anguish, Lucas twisted the knife.
“I should thank you, actually. If not for you, Caroline and I would never have gotten together.”
