Aiden went on a rampage, imprisoning Elise while crushing the Versta family business.
The Verstas were already struggling financially due to industry challenges.
They’d only managed a brief reprieve by the collaboration with the Kemnis Corporation.
Other business rivals had backed off from attacking the Verstas out of respect for Aiden’s company.
But now Kemnis Corporation was leading the charge to withdraw investments, And seeing the shift in power, everyone else turned against the Verstas too.
Within days, Versta Corp was in crisis.
Kahar Versta kept calling his daughter, but Elise never answered.
In frustration, he smashed his phone against the wall.
Elise woke up to pain shooting through her body. She looked around fearfully, relaxing only when
she didn’t see Aiden.
He’d kept her locked up, forcing her to apologize to Caroline daily and “atone” for the death of their
child.
Any resistance earned her a brutal beating.
Elise stared at a photo of Caroline that Aiden had left behind, her eyes filling with hatred.
‘Caroline, this is all YOUR fault!”
‘Everything I’m suffering is because of you.”
Looking at Caroline’s radiant smile in the photo, Elise grabbed a stone and scratched across the
mage.
‘I want you dead, Caroline!”
‘Aiden Kemnis, Caroline Flores–you both deserve to die!!!”

Her screams caught a guard’s attention.
“Shut up,” he warned, brandishing a stun baton.
Elise pretended to comply.
After Aiden’s next visit, she looked at the keys she’d managed to steal and smiled.
“Caroline, I won’t let you get away with this!”
Taking advantage of the darkness and the guards‘ lowered vigilance, Elise escaped.
The moment she got hold of a phone, she received a call from her father.
“Elise, what the hell happened between you and Aiden? He’s destroying us. We’re one step away
from bankruptcy, and he’s still not stopping!”
Wind howled on the other end of the line and Elise felt uneasy.
“Dad, don’t do anything rash. I’ll beg Aiden to stop.”
Kahar stood on the roof of Versta Corp headquarters. Angry employees demanded severance pay
below. Behind him, debt collectors had broken through. And in his inbox was an audit notice from
the IRS.
“I’m sorry I failed you, sweetheart.”
With those words, he dropped the phone and jumped.
Elise screamed desperately into the phone, but it was too late.
When Aiden discovered Elise’s escape, he immediately sent people to track her down.
Too afraid to go outside, Elise holed up in a rundown motel.
She stared at the headline on her phone:

Elise stabbed a knife into a photo of Aiden and Caroline. “You’re both going to hell for this!!!”
“You’ll pay for my father’s death!”

Since the incident with Aiden, Lucas had been glued to Caroline’s side.
“Lucas, you don’t need to be so tense,” Caroline noticed how anxious he looked even during their
dinner out.
“Aiden hasn’t shown up in weeks. The food here is great–try some.”
Lucas couldn’t shake a feeling of unease, as if something terrible was about to happen.
“Sir, your order,” a server placed dishes on their table.
Lucas frowned. “We didn’t order this. You’ve got the wrong table.”
The server looked directly at Caroline and pulled out a knife from under her tray.
“Caroline, look out!” Lucas shouted.
Aiden walked in just in time to witness the scene unfolding.
