After that day, Aiden tried to find Caroline twice more. But Lucas chased him off both times.
Caroline thought Aiden had finally given up and was just beginning to relax when she received a
text from an unknown number.
“Caroline, we need to talk.”
She had no idea who it was or how they’d gotten her number. She immediately deleted the message.
The next day, she received the same text again.
“Who is this?” she cautiously replied.
“Elise.”
Seeing the response, Caroline frowned and blocked the number. She wanted nothing to do with Aiden or Elise anymore.
She’d already walked away–why couldn’t they leave her alone?
“Caroline, we need to talk.”
One day after class, when Lucas happened to have a lecture and couldn’t pick her up, Elise appeared and blocked Caroline’s path.
“We have nothing to talk about.” Caroline tried to walk around her but was grabbed firmly by the
wrist.
She struggled to break free, but Elise’s grip was too strong.
“There’s a coffee shop right there. Five minutes.”
Caroline didn’t want any contact with Elise. But since she’d come all this way, Caroline decided not to show fear.
She’d done nothing wrong and she had nothing to be afraid of.
Caroline even ordered a coffee for Elise. Elise looked at the cup in front of her and let out a cold

laugh.
After a long silence, Caroline spoke first. “What’s wrong? Things not working out with Aiden?”
This hit a nerve. Elise’s expression instantly darkened.
“You pulled some manipulative shit, didn’t you? That’s why he’s acting like this.”
Caroline took a sip of her coffee, her eyes dancing with amusement.
“Sounds like your relationship with Aiden isn’t going as planned.”
Elise lost control and moved to throw her coffee in Caroline’s face.
Caroline saw it coming. With one hand, she stopped Elise’s coffee–throwing attempt. And with the
other, she threw her own remaining coffee into Elise’s face.
Elise stared at her in disbelief.
Caroline then grabbed Elise’s cup and threw that coffee on her too.
“What the fuck?!” Elise shrieked. She couldn’t believe that the once–timid Caroline would do this to
her.
“This is what you fought so hard for, right?”
“I terminated the pregnancy. I divorced Aiden. I even left the New York to get away from you both.
What more do you want?”
“You got Aiden, but it wasn’t what you expected, so now you’re coming after me? You’re pathetic.”
Coffee dripped from Elise’s hair and soaked her clothes.
“This is all your fault! If it weren’t for you, Aiden wouldn’t be treating me this way!”
Caroline snorted. “Two cups of coffee still haven’t sobered you up, huh?”
Elise lunged at Caroline but was caught from behind.
“Class over already?” Caroline smiled at Lucas who stood behind Elise.
Elise turned to look at Lucas, wrenching her arm free from his grip.

“Honestly, Elise. Instead of looking for me, you should go find Aiden.”
Caroline slipped her arm through Lucas’s.
“I’ve moved on and have my boyfriend. Do me a favor and tell Aiden to stop harassing me.”
