After that phone call with David, Aiden was sure Caroline was with her father.
Having a general direction made the search much easier. Soon, Aiden tracked down Caroline’s
whereabouts.
He wanted to bring something meaningful to win her back, but their empty house contained nothing
sentimental.
Only then did Aiden realize how badly he’d messed up.
He hadn’t even noticed when so many of their things went missing.
After years of marriage, he couldn’t even find a single photo of them together apart from what had
been in the house.
Aiden located the university where Caroline was now studying.
Visibly haggard from recent weeks, he clutched a bouquet of flowers and rehearsed what he would say to her before walking onto campus.
“Is the art exhibit already set up?”
“I heard the football star Lucas Elvador is there too.”
“He’s definitely into Caroline Flores. I see him over at the art wing almost every day.”
As Aiden walked, two students hurried past him. He hadn’t paid attention until he caught Caroline’s name. He immediately turned and blocked their path.
‘Excuse me–did you just mention Caroline Flores? Where is she?”
The urgency in his voice was unmistakable.
The students gave him a strange look and walked away without answering.
Aiden didn’t waste time thinking about it and followed them.
The Arts building was surrounded by a crowd of students. Aiden tried to see what was happening

but couldn’t get through.
He pushed his way in and spotted Caroline and Lucas at the center of attention.
Aiden saw the younger man steadying Caroline with a hand on her waist as she stood on a ladder
hanging artwork. She didn’t seem to mind his touch at all.
That hand on her waist felt like a knife in Aiden’s chest.
Aiden dropped the flowers on the ground. Then he rushed forward, grabbed Lucas by the collar and
threw a punch at his face.
Everyone around them gasped in shock.
Aiden’s punch caused the ladder to wobble. Caroline’s face filled with terror.
Lucas ignored Aiden and steadied the ladder, helping Caroline down safely.
Once she was on the ground, Lucas retaliated with a punch to Aiden’s face.
Aiden was no longer in his prime and weakened from recent stress. So he was crashed to the ground
from Lucas’s blow.
As Aiden struggled to get up, Lucas wiped blood from his mouth and prepared to hit him again. But
Caroline stopped him.
Aiden staggered to his feet when he see Caroline and turned to retrieve the flowers he’d brought.
Lucas was still confused about what was happening. He noticed the disgust in Caroline’s eyes as she
looked at Aiden and moved to shield her.
“Babe, these are for you,” Aiden stumbled toward her with the bouquet.
Caroline deliberately avoided him, pulling Lucas away.
“Babe, it’s my fault. I’m so sorry, Caroline,” Aiden pleaded and reached for her arm, only to be shoved to the ground by Lucas.
Caroline didn’t even look at Aiden lying there. She just pulled Lucas away and left.
