Chapter 15
Ever since Lucas got hurt saving Caroline, David started inviting him over for dinner regularly.
Under David’s subtle matchmaking, Lucas and Caroline quickly became comfortable with each
other.
‘Professor asked me to bring you some fruit,” Lucas set the plate down beside her easel.
Caroline nodded to acknowledge him but kept painting, showing no intention of taking a break.
Lucas sat down on a nearby stool and watched her work.
When Caroline finally finished the painting and stretched, she was surprised to find Lucas still sitting there.
‘You’re still here?”
Lucas stood up and moved behind her to look at the painting.
‘What do you think? Not bad, right?”
Lucas nodded. “It’s beautiful.”
Caroline hesitated for a second. Then asked the question that had been bothering her. “Did we know
each other before?”
She was really curious.
she’d tried asking her father, but he always laughed it off. Whenever she asked Lucas directly, he’d always brushed it off with a simple.
‘If you don’t remember, it doesn’t matter.”
But this time, he didn’t. “Have dinner with me tomorrow, and I’ll tell you.”
Caroline knew Lucas was interested in her.
But she wasn’t ready to date anyone. She thought this dinner would be a good opportunity to make that clear.

Chapter 15
“Okay.”
Lucas chose an Italian restaurant for their dinner.
When Caroline arrived, he was already there. The server led Caroline to the table, where Lucas handed her a bouquet of flowers.
Caroline lowered her head to smell the beautifully wrapped jasmine. “Thank you for the flowers. I
love them.”
Lucas pressed further. “What about me?”
Caroline was caught off guard. After a moment, she replied, “Lucas, I think we need to-”
Lucas cut her off. “Don’t rush to reject me. This place has amazing food. Let’s eat first.”
As a suitor, Lucas was doing everything right. He looked out for her at school, respected her during conversations and never made her uncomfortable.
But she had been deeply hurt by Aiden. She had given him her whole heart only to have it trampled.
Thinking about Aiden made, Caroline moody. She barely touched her food but drank quite a bit, becoming slightly tipsy.
Lucas took her wine glass away. “That’s enough. You’ll get drunk.”
Caroline looked at him, the alcohol making her bold. “Seriously… how did we know each other
before? Why can’t I remember anything?”
Just as Lucas was about to answer, Caroline continued. “I don’t want to fall in love again. Being hurt
feels so awful.”
The alcohol had loosened her tongue and all the pain she’d been suppressing came flooding out.
From Caroline’s scattered words, Lucas could piece together what had happened.
His eyes filled with sympathy as he looked at the now–drunk Caroline. He gently tapped her nose.
“If only I’d told you earlier… I was the one who met you first.”
