Chapter 12
Meanwhile, after getting snapped at by Aiden twice in a row, Elise was getting irritated.
But the redness in his eyes told her now wasn’t the time to push it. So she grabbed her purse and left
in a hurry.
Aiden sat on the couch, clutching the papers. Only now did he realize how much he’d neglected Caroline lately.
So many things had disappeared from their home and he hadn’t noticed a single change.
The framed photos of them in the living room, the blanket they’d knitted together on the sofa, even the wooden toys they’d made for the nursery upstairs…
Aiden finally realized there wasn’t a single trace of Caroline left in the house.
“Sir.” The housekeepers looked terrified when Aiden summoned them.
“Where did everything go?”
The two housemaids glanced at each other before one finally gathered the courage to speak.
“Mrs. Kemnis said someone new would be living here soon, so the old things wouldn’t be needed
anymore.”
Aiden hurled his water glass against the wall.
‘Why the hell didn’t anyone tell me?”
The housekeeper hesitantly replied, “You’ve barely been home lately, sir. We didn’t have the chance.”
Aiden was stunned by this truth, then asked.
‘When did she leave? Didn’t any of you try to stop her?”
The housekeepers looked ready to drop to their knees. “Mrs. Kemnis said she didn’t like having people around all the time. We only came to clean and left afterward. Today she told us not to come
at all.”

Chapter 12
Aiden realized he wouldn’t get much more from them and irritably waved them away.
He was consumed with regret. Why hadn’t he paid more attention to Caroline?
Now all he wanted was to find her as quickly as possible.
“Have someone track my wife’s whereabouts,” he ordered his assistant.
But after several days with no trace of Caroline, Aiden grew desperate. He thought of her father and
found the number.
His finger hovered over the call button for a long time before he hesitated.
He and David had once been close friends despite their age difference. But ever since Aiden got together with Caroline, David had moved to California and cut off contact.
David had never approved of their relationship. The marriage had only happened after Caroline had begged for his blessing.
Aiden remembered the promise he’d made to David when they first got together.
“Sir, I swear I’m serious about Caroline. I’ll take good care of her.”
David had looked at Aiden with clear distrust.
“Dad, please,” Caroline had pleaded. “He’s good to me. I love him.”
Even faced with his beloved daughter’s pleas, David remained unconvinced.
Finally, he asked Caroline to step out so he could speak to Aiden ȧlone.
“Aiden, we’ve been friends for years. You know my wife left me with just this one child. She’s my
everything. I can’t bear to see her hurt.”
David knew Aiden well–his calculating nature and his guarded heart.
With their eight–year age gap, David was certain Caroline would be the one to get hurt in the relationship.
“Sir, I swear on my life, I will never betray Caroline.”
David hadn’t believed in oaths, of course. But he couldn’t bear to break his daughter’s heart and had

finally consented to the marriage.
Remembering his promise now sent a searing pain through Aiden’s chest.
But no matter how hard he searched, there was no trace of Caroline.
Aiden finally made the call. “Hello, this is David Flores speaking.”
“Dad, I wanted to ask if you know-”
Aiden had barely started when the call disconnected.
He tried again.
“Dad, I know I messed up. Is Caroline with you?”
This time, David exploded and didn’t hold back. “Where Caroline is has nothing to do with you anymore. You’re divorced now and don’t you dare call me ‘Dad‘ again!”
David hung up and when Aiden tried calling back, he discovered he’d already been blocked.
