Chapter 11
“Professor Flores asked me to show you around campus.”
He reached for Caroline’s art portfolio, but she pulled away.
“Thanks, but you really don’t have to. If you’re busy, I can manage on my own.”
Lucas noticed her resistance but took the portfolio anyway.
“My football train just wrapped up, and the next phase isn’t urgent. I’ve got time to give you the campus tour.”
Caroline looked at his enthusiasm and assumed he was just doing her father a favor.
“I won’t tell my dad if you need to go. Seriously, don’t feel obligated.”
Lucas stopped walking and turned to her. “Why do you assume I’m not doing this because I want to spend time with you?”
Caroline didn’t understand what he meant, so she just followed him.
Lucas thoughtfully showed her all the spots frequented by fine arts students. When he noticed her getting tired, he’d take her to coffee shops or grassy areas to rest.
“Thanks so much for today-” Caroline didn’t get to finish. Lucas shouted.
“Watch out!”
It was club activity day and they happened to be near the skateboarding area.
Caroline froze as she saw a skateboard hurtling toward her.
“Look out!”
Lucas yanked her into his arms and spun around, taking the hit full–on with his back.
The skateboarder apologized profusely.
Caroline was about to ask if Lucas was okay, but he beat her to it.

“Are you alright? Are you hurt?”
The concern in his eyes seemed genuine. Caroline couldn’t understand why he’d put himself in
harm’s way for her.
“I’m fine. Are you okay?”
Lucas sighed with relief hearing she wasn’t hurt. As he tried to lead her away, he winced in pain.
“Shit!”
Caroline noticed his limp and immediately crouched down. “What’s wrong? You’re hurt, aren’t you?”
Lucas’s leg had hit a concrete column, its sharp edge cutting into his calf.
Caroline noticed the apologetic skateboarder had disappeared. She turned to Lucas:
I’ll take you to the campus clinic. That looks pretty bad.”
Lucas was about to brush it off. But seeing the concern in her eyes, he nodded.
“Thanks.”
Caroline took him to the campus clinic.
“It’s just a cut, nothing serious. No stitches needed–just disinfection and bandaging,” Lucas glanced
at Caroline’s worried expression and comforted her.
The doctor treating Lucas couldn’t help teasing. “Looks like we have a knight in shining armor here.”
Lucas smiled without denying it, while Caroline looked down with embarrassment.
“Just clean and change the bandage daily,” the doctor instructed.
When Caroline tried to pay, Lucas stopped her. “You need a student card for that. You don’t have one yet, right? Use mine.”
Caroline took his card still warm from his pocket and went to pay.
The doctor looked at Lucas. “Girlfriend?”
Lucas grinned mischievously. “Not yet, but maybe someday.”

Chapter 11
Caroline collected the medication and helped Lucas walk out. She finally asked,
“Why did you save me?” This was only their second meeting, after all.
Lucas looked at her and said something puzzling. “You really don’t remember me, do you?”
Caroline was confused. “What?”
Lucas shook his head. “Nothing. I wanted to help, so I did.”
Even after Lucas had limped away, Caroline kept thinking about his words.
“You really don’t remember me?”
She repeated the phrase to herself. But for the life of her, couldn’t recall ever meeting Lucas before.
