Thomas felt like his world was crashing down around him.
He kept reading the note over and over, with shaking hands. He kept wondering if his mind was
playing tricks on him, because this couldn’t be real. It wasn’t real.
He could hear Claire and Chris speaking, but he didn’t pay them any attention.
“Thomas, what does it say?” Claire demanded, stepping closer.
No. No. It wasn’t real.
Chris reached for the letter, but Thomas yanked it away, holding it tightly.
“Thomas, what the hell does it say?” Claire snapped again with frustration in her voice.
He still didn’t answer. Before he could react, Chris snatched the letter from his hands. Claire’s eyes quickly read the note, and her eyes widened in shock.
“What?” she exclaimed in disbelief. “No. No, she wouldn’t-”
Chris frowned as he finished reading. “Damn.”
Claire turned to Thomas. “What the hell did you do?” she accused, shaking the letter in front of him.
Thomas felt like he couldn’t breathe. His heart pounded in his chest, and his mind raced.
She left.
He ran a hand through his hair in frustration.
“No,” he whispered, shaking his head in denial.
Claire grabbed his arm. “Thomas-”
But he shoved her back forcefully. Claire cried out as she stumbled, and fell on the church floor The guests gasped in shock, but Thomas didn’t stop to care.
He turned and began to run.
He ignored the guests, Claire, and Chris, who was shouting his name, as he ran outside.
He didn’t pause to think, he got into his car quickly and began driving home.
As he drove, his mind flashed back to some days ago. When he saw Gabriella packing clothes and throwing some things away.
He had asked her, and she had said something about a change and fresh starts, since they were to get married.
He inhaled sharply. Fresh starts.
Gabriella had been preparing to leave the entire time.
Thomas clenched his jaw tightly as he tightened his grip on the steering wheel.
Minutes later, he reached home and he ran out of the car, without bothering to lock the doors as he ran inside.
The house was silent, and empty.
Thomas was breathing heavily as he rushed to their bedroom.

Her closet was empty, her drawers were empty. Everything about her was gone. How didn’t he
notice?
His heart pounded in his chest. Ella was really gone. This wasn’t a joke.
Thomas frantically pulled out his phone and tried calling her again, but her number was still
switched off.
Maybe she just needed space. Maybe she will come back. He thought to himself.
But when he remembered the empty closet and drawers, he wasn’t so sure. Why was Ella leaving
him? He asked himself.
Someone knocked on the door of the house, and Thomas hurried to the door, praying it was Ella, or someone who had news about Ella’s whereabouts.
A delivery man stood there, holding a thick envelope. “Delivery for Mr. Thomas Carter, from Ms. Gabriella Lewis.”
Thomas’s phone stomach twisted violently. Another delivery man.
He snatched the envelope and ripped it open. There were several documents inside. As he glanced through them, his blood ran cold.
t couldn’t be. He read through the documents, breathing heavily.
Gabriella had taken back everything. His hand gripped the papers tightly, almost squeezing it.
Every cent he and Claire had stolen had been recovered. Their secret accounts had been completely emptied.
The house he was standing in, that Ella had bought for his birthday, was no longer his. It has already been put for sale.His breath caught in his throat.

Panic surged through him as he realized that Gabriella knew everything. How long had she

She had been acting different since she left the hospital. She had been cold, and distant. He had assumed it was grief from the miscarriage. But what if… what if she had been awake that day when they were talking in the hospital?
A chill ran down his spine.
They had been discussing their plans in the hospital, how they had planned to get rid of her after hey got married.
Had she heard?
That would explain everything. Her sudden change, her silence, the way she had been cold, and had firmly said that she didn’t want any child again.
And now, she had left him with nothing.
