Chapter 25
June’s POV
“Keep your eyes closed,” Killian instructed softly from behind me.
I groaned playfully. “Come on, let me just see it.”
He chuckled in amusement. “So impatient.” He teased
I heard the sound of a chair being moved, and my nose twitched at the delicious scent in the air. My curiosity intensified.
“Alright,” Killian said. “Open them.”
I blinked my eyes open and I gasped.
We were on the rooftop of Killian’s mansion, and it had been redesigned. There were candles arranged beautifully, and rose petals were scattered around.
There was a table in the middle, with two chairs. The food in the plates looked like they were directly from a five–star restaurant, and a very expensive looking bottle of wine.
I turned to Killian, who was watching me with an unreadable expression on his face. “Wow,” I breathed. “Did you do all this?”
He smirked. “Well, I don’t cook, but I know some people who do.”
I shook my head, smiling. “It’s beautiful.”
We sat down, and as the night went on, conversation flowed easily. For once, there was no tension, there was no talk of revenge or past betrayals. Just us.
At some point, Killian looked deep in thought, like he was about to say something very important. I kept my eyes on him, watching him carefully, till he finally spoke.
“I’ve been thinking,” he said.
“I noticed,” I teased with a small smile.
He smirked, but then his expression quickly became serious. “We were engaged before,” he said, tilting his head. “But it was for revenge. A way of getting back at our cheating spouses.”
I set my spoon down slowly, nodding slowly at his words. Maybe this was it. This was the moment he would tell me that we were done with the fake engagement.
“But things are different now,” he continued. “I don’t want this to be about Richard anymore. Or April. Or any of that bullshit.” He released a deep sigh, then he stared into my eyes. “I want to do
it for real this time.”
I blinked in shock at his words, and my mouth gaped open.
“I’m sorry, you mean…?”
“Marry me,” he said, leaning forward, keeping his eyes on mine “No hidden agenda. No schemes.
Just us.”
I stared at him, shocked.
“I’m not saying you have to,” he quickly added. “If you don’t want to, that’s fine. But I’m asking because I want to, not because I need to.”

He ran a hand through his hair with an unreadable expression on his face. “There’s something between us. I don’t know what it is, but I know I don’t want to lose it.”
My eyes were still wide as he stared at me earnestly. My heart raced at his words.
I opened my mouth to respond, but his phone began ringing.
Killian growled under his breath, ignoring the phone at first. But when it rang again, he clenched his jaw, and pulled out his phone. Immediately he glanced at the caller ID. His entire body went
still.
Something was wrong.
“Killian?” I asked cautiously.
He answered the phone. “What?” he barked into the phone.
There was a moment of silence. Then his muscles tensed, and his eyes darkened.
“How did that happen?” he growled, his eyes flashing with anger.
I also became tense, watching to know what happened.
Killian stood up from his chair abruptly, clenching his fists so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
“I’m on my way,” he said, then ended the call.
“What happened?” I aske.
Killian turned to me, with a grave expression on his face. “April escaped.”
I gasped in horror. “How?”
“We don’t know yet.” He ran a hand through his hair in frustration. “But she has escaped, and we’re not making the mistake of underestimating her again like before, after she kidnapped you.”
My mind raced. April was cunning, and calculating. She must be planning her next move now.
“I need to go,” he said softly, and I nodded quickly.
“Yes, please go.”
Killian turned to leave, but then he paused. He looked back at me, his eyes had softened.
“This conversation isn’t over,” he said firmly. “We will come back to it once April is handled.”
Then, without saying another word, he walked away, leaving me alone on the rooftop.

Days passed, and the search for April had been futile. There were no clues, and Killian came back everyday with frustration on his face. He hardly slept at all, always going over the files and documents looking for clues that’ll help him find April.
I watched him with a small frown on my face. “How is the search going?”
Killian released a frustrated sigh. “Nothing yet. No clue, no sign of her.”
I sighed. “What if she doesn’t want to do anything evil? Maybe she just wants to live her life free?”
He snorted in response, then he stared me dead in my eyes. “You’re her sister. You’ve known her for years. Tell me sincerely, do you think your sister will let go of her jealousy and bitterness

against you?”
I sighed, and I shook my head. “No. I don’t think she will.” I replied, because that was the truth. April rarely let go of grudges.
I opened my mouth to speak when his phone rang. I watched his eyes lit up with hope as he listened to the person on the other end of the line.
A small smile crossed his lips, “Okay, I’ll be there soon.” He murmured to the person at the other end of the line
Killian turned to me with a smirk. “We’ve found something. I’ll be back the moment we’re done.” He promised, placing a kiss on my forehead before he ran out.
I watched him leave with an ache in my chest: I didn’t want him to go. I thought to myself.
