Chapter 5
Lila’s body instantly froze. She stared at Zara in disbelief: “Zara, what are you doing?”
“Relax, I’m not going to kill you,” Zara said with a sweet smile. “I just want you to see clearly who Cal will save first
when we’re both in danger.”
With that, Zara threw the explosives into an empty corner of the room.
BOOM-
The explosion collapsed part of the room, trapping both Lila and Zara under the debris.
Dust and rubble flew everywhere. Lila coughed violently and tried to move, but she was pinned down tightly.
A metal rod had pierced her shoulder, and blood flowed freely as her consciousness began to fade.
In the chaotic aftermath, Lila saw Callan rushing toward them.
“Callan… I’m over here…” Lila used her last bit of strength to call out. “…help me!”
But Callan seemed completely deaf to Lila’s cries for help. His eyes were fixed solely on Zara as he lifted the heavy debris off her and pulled her protectively into his arms.
“Zara, don’t be afraid. I’m here,” the usually unflappable Callan showed rare panic as he held Zara tightly, as if
wanting to absorb her into his own body.
Lila’s tears flowed uncontrollably as she watched Callan carry Zara away without even a backward glance in her
direction.
“…Callan… this was my hospital room…” Lila lay among the ashes, letting her tears fall freely.
Callan, this was my room. Did you truly not know I was in here?
Or is Zara so completely filling your eyes and heart that there’s no room for anyone else?
Lila’s world collapsed in that moment, leaving nothing but endless darkness.
When she next regained consciousness, Lila found herself back at home.
“Lila, you’re finally awake.” Callan’s voice trembled slightly, his eyes bloodshot, his entire mental state clearly
unstable. “If anything had happened to you, I would’ve blown that entire hospital to hell.”
Lila remained silent. The image of Callan walking away with Zara in his arms was still deeply etched in her mind, and all she felt now was grief and desolation.

Chapter 5
“Lila, are you upset that I rescued Zara first?” Callan asked hesitantly. “I honestly didn’t know you were in the room too. Besides, Zara’s still young–as the adult, I saw her first and naturally couldn’t ignore her.”
“Saving her was just my responsibility as an older relative. But Lila, if anything had happened to you, I would have followed you in death.”
As Callan spoke, he gently held Lila’s hand.
He was about to continue his declaration when the sound of breaking glass came from the doorway.
Zara stood there with tears in her eyes, a shattered cup at her feet and an expression of hurt on her face.
She had heard everything Callan just said.
Callan’s face instantly turned pale, but before he could explain, Zara covered her face and ran away crying.
Callan instinctively moved to follow her, but meeting Lila’s cold eyes, he stopped himself.
“Just a kid,” Callan said with a forced smile. “Never mind her. Lila, you’re the most important person in my heart.”
In the following days, Callan remained by Lila’s side constantly.
He canceled all his work, caring for her meticulously–personally feeding her, applying her medication, washing her hands and feet. He even followed her to the bathroom, refusing to let Lila out of his sight for even a second.
Until one day, news came from the Carson family that Zara had disappeared.
“Zara hasn’t been home for an entire week,” Zara’s father said, looking haggard. “Callan, haven’t you seen her recently either? Where could she have gone?”
Callan’s face instantly turned terrifying. He immediately gathered all his men and began searching for Zara
everywhere.
Lila watched Callan’s frantic response with calm eyes, completely unmoved.
Because she had become utterly disillusioned with Callan. Nothing he did could affect her anymore.
