Chapter 8
What I didn’t know was that Garrett had been secretly in love with me for seven years.
Whatever I wanted to do, he’d back me up completely. No matter when I turned around, he was always there behind me.
This time was no different.
When I called him, he didn’t ask questions–just showed up and made me feel completely safe.
Ever since he came into my life, I haven’t had to deal with any bullshit.
He even thought my revenge on the Hawthornes and Blackwoods wasn’t harsh enough, so he’d handle things behind the scenes to clear every obstacle for me.
Making sure Thaddeus and Eloise lost everything that mattered to them–reputation, money, the works.
I stood on my tiptoes and, with Thaddeus watching, planted a lipstick kiss on Garrett’s cheek. Everyone around us lost their minds.
All the employees started freaking out. “Oh my God, Mr. Westbrook is actually blushing! His ears are so red! He’s totally whipped–he supports everything she does!”
Garrett looked shocked too. “Viv, you just-”
I smiled sweetly. “Sorry for making you wait so long.”
He looked at me with those intense eyes. “It wasn’t long. As long as I get you in the end, it’s worth it.”
Thaddeus had never seen me be that bold in public before. His eyes went completely bloodshot.
But he kept following me around anyway. I was so over it. “You shouldn’t be stalking me right now. You should be dealing with your family’s shitstorm.”
His voice sounded pathetic. “Viv, can you just come somewhere with me? Please?”
I was exhausted. “Fine. But I have a flight tonight.”

Hearing I was leaving made him look even more broken.
When the car stopped, I couldn’t believe it–he’d brought me back to the same mansion where he’d
kicked me out.
“Viv, do you remember? We made so many good memories in this place.”
I laughed bitterly. “I don’t remember any good times. I just remember you throwing me out.”
He tried to grab my hand, but Garrett stepped between us.
“Back off. Just because she’s giving you a chance to grovel doesn’t mean you can cross boundaries.”
Suddenly the front door flew open front inside. Eloise stumbled out.
She looked completely unhinged–hair everywhere, eyes wild.
“Thaddeus! You’re finally back! Do you know how scared I was in there all alone?”
“I promise I’ll be good from now on. Feel this–I’m carrying your baby. I won’t be scared of the pain anymore. I’ll give birth to our child.”
I stared coldly at her flat stomach. Thaddeus had already forced her to abort that baby.
Thaddeus’s face went dark as he snapped at the staff. “Didn’t I tell you to lock her in the storage
room? How the hell did she get out?”
Even the Blackwood family had disowned their fake daughter to save face.
He looked at me nervously. “Viv, I only kept her around because I felt sorry for her. If you don’t like
it, I’ll kick her out right now.”
Before I could answer, hearing the word “kick” made Eloise completely lose it.
“Don’t throw me out! I have nowhere to go! I’ll be good, I’ll go back to the storage room right now, I promise!”
Thaddeus shoved her away without thinking, and she went full psycho, slamming her head into the marble pillar.
Right before she passed out, she kept mumbling, “Thaddeus, save our baby…”

Watching this whole karmic circle play out, I felt… something.
Garrett put his hand over my eyes from behind and whispered, “Don’t look, babe. It’s gross.”
Thaddeus stared at me, rambling nonsense. “Viv, don’t listen to her crazy talk, I—”
I cut him off. “Save it. Just get her to a hospital.”
