Chapter 7
After deciding to leave this toxic city behind, he started full–on stalking me.
Every damn day, he’d lurk outside places he thought I might show up.
Despite me completely ghosting him, he kept hunting down random stuff he thought I’d like.
Today he ambushed me at my front door with this huge–ass bouquet of yellow roses.
“Viv, remember how you loved yellow roses? I had these specially flown in from Europe–they’re some super rare breed or whatever.”
I barely looked at them before turning away.
Garrett laughed from beside me. “That’s sweet, buddy, but I literally just bought my fiancée her own
rose farm. Yellow ones.”
The 99 roses went flying as his hands dropped. “Wait, what? You guys are engaged?”
I stuck my left hand out the car window, letting my ten–carat rock catch the light. “Yup. Garrett’s my
fiancé now.”
The look on his face was pure devastation.
I was so done with his bullshit. “Let’s go,” I told my driver. “And tell security–no more random
people getting past the gate.”
Through the side mirror, I watched him just… crumble. All the family drama had completely broken him down–he looked like he’d aged a decade in weeks.
After getting changed, Garrett and I headed to our company launch event.
But this stalker asshole still wouldn’t quit. He actually showed up with some homemade lunch.
I took one look and dumped it straight in the nearest trash can.
The guy could actually cook really well, but he’d never made me so much as toast. Only when Eloise was around did he suddenly turn into Gordon Ramsay.

Chapter 7
“OMG, your boyfriend is such an amazing chef! You’re so lucky,” Eloise used to gush, knowing perfectly well he only cooked for her.
I ducked into the bathroom and ran right into Thaddeus lurking around the corner.
His eyes looked completely dead inside.
I let out an exhausted sigh. “Seriously, what’s the point of this anymore?”
“I could’ve destroyed you completely. The fact that I didn’t was me being nice.”
All the color drained from his face as he started basically begging. “Look, I’ve lost everything, okay? 1 get it now. Eloise and I are totally done–she’s knocked up with my kid and I want nothing to do with either of them. Can’t you just give me one more chance? I swear I love
you.”
“Shit, I’ll be your assistant or whatever. I just… I can’t handle being without you.” “I’m falling apart
here.”
I spoke slowly, like I was talking to a child. “Thaddeus, we were never going to work. You’re only
chasing me now because you want the power that comes with me.”
“You never actually loved me, and you sure as hell never loved Eloise. The only person you’ve ever given a damn about is yourself.”
That hit home–his whole face twisted up.
After an awkward silence, he said quietly, “But we used to be so happy together…”
Yeah, we were. When I first came home, I genuinely thought I’d won the lottery–finally getting the family and love I’d dreamed about my whole life.
Right when I thought everything was perfect, that’s when his mask slipped. He started coming home at all hours or not at all.
He moved Eloise into our place, claiming that my “sister” was his sister too.
But the way he acted around his so–called “sister” was sketchy as hell.
They were constantly flirting right in front of me, carrying on behind my back.
What did I get for putting my heart on the line?
