The contract bidding day finally arrived.
“Sorry, you two can’t come in.”
Eloise immediately went ballistic. “Do you have any idea who we are? You can’t just keep us out!”
“I don’t care who you think you are. You’re not getting in today.”
Thaddeus shot her a look. “I thought you said you had this locked down? That it was a sure thing?”
She looked like she was about to have a panic attack. “I did! I blew through my entire savings
account. The guy swore it was handled.”
That’s when a sleek black Lincoln rolled up.
Security instantly formed two perfect lines and bowed in unison. “Welcome back, boss!”
Garrett stepped out and opened my door. I emerged in a killer black dress and red stilettos.
Eloise came at me like a woman possessed. “You bitch, you sabotaged-”
Security stopped her cold before she could get anywhere near me.
“Guilty as charged. What did you expect after I promised to ruin you both?”

addeus finally cracked and dropped to his knees right there in front of everyone.

But Thaddeus was done with her games and roughly pushed her off.
“Viv, the whole thing with Eloise was fake! I was playing the long game for us!”
“She convinced me that marrying her would get me the Blackwood family backing I needed to take over Hawthorne Industries.”
“I know I screwed up royally. Just give me one shot to fix this.”
His pathetic groveling actually made me laugh.
“God, you’re such a piece of shit, Thaddeus.”
Eloise was getting desperate. “Baby, don’t beg her! Let’s just get out of here. We can figure this out together. I’ve got other connections.”
This time he didn’t even look at her before shoving her away hard.
After being knocked down over and over, Eloise finally crumpled, clutching her stomach. “Oh god, something’s wrong-”
For once, her pain looked genuine.
But Thaddeus was way past caring about her drama.
He kept his pathetic begging focused on me. “Viv, I just lost my mind for a hot second. The money, the power–it all went to my head. Can’t we just hit reset?”
My voice could have frozen hell. “Your little ‘moment of weakness‘ made me the butt of every joke in town, got me sexually assaulted, and murdered my baby. After putting me through all that hell, you think I’d ever take you back?”
“We’re done. Forever.” I didn’t slow down, didn’t look back–just kept walking.
He tried to follow.
Garrett stepped into his path. “The boss is being way too nice, just taking your company. Me? I’m gonna make your life a living nightmare. Hope you’re ready for what’s coming, asshole.”
Behind me, I could hear Eloise sobbing and Thaddeus snapping at her.
