I looked at them calmly. “Thaddeus, I heard every word of your conversation with my parents in that back room. Our engagement is over, and I’m done with my so–called family too.”
My parents immediately started screaming. “Ungrateful brat! We brought you into this world, and
this is how you repay us? Not only did you buy out the Hawthornes, but you’re sabotaging our
business too!”
“So what? You pushed me to this. If you didn’t want me as your daughter, you should’ve just said so instead of putting on that whole happy family charade.”
“All you wanted were my shares anyway. Fine, you could’ve had them. But you didn’t have to stomp all over my feelings and murder my baby for your stupid lies.”
“You even took the placenta after the baby died. Are you even human?”
By the end, I couldn’t keep my emotions in check.
I didn’t notice the flash of pain in Garrett’s eyes as he watched me, but I definitely caught how Thaddeus’s face went green, his gaze glued to my hand on Garrett’s arm.
Eloise immediately grabbed Thaddeus’s arm. “Honey, what’s wrong?”
But Thaddeus didn’t give her an ounce of attention. He shook her off and strode right up to me.
‘Vivienne, who the hell is this guy? You belong to me!”
His voice was dripping with rage.
Garrett stepped protectively in front of me as I said coldly, “Watch yourself, Thaddeus. Everyone here knows your wife is Eloise.”
You and I are nothing to each other anymore.”
His face went rigid. “Viv, that was all a misunderstanding. Now that you know I’m not your uncle, our engagement still stands.”
‘Eloise and I–that was just a fake marriage. You’re the only one I’ve ever loved.”

Chapter 5
I stared at him blankly, finally seeing how terrible his acting really was. I must have been completely blind before.
Seeing me suddenly become the center of attention, Eloise started panicking.
She fake–fell to the ground, clutching her stomach. “Ow, Thaddeus, my stomach really hurts!”
Usually, the second she played the helpless victim and called him “Thaddeus,” he’d drop everything–even if he was with me–and rush to her side.
But this time, he barely glanced at her before turning back to me with puppy dog eyes.
He glared at Garrett viciously. “Who are you? Viv, don’t trust anything he says. He’s just using you.”
Garrett laughed and slapped the stock transfer papers right in Thaddeus’s face. “I’m using her? Maybe you should open your damn eyes and see who actually tricked Vivienne into signing away
her shares.”
“Old Mr. Blackwood’s only granddaughter, conned into signing over her inheritance, then forced to abort her baby while pregnant and thrown out on the street!”
The entire room went dead silent. The true faces of both families were laid bare for everyone to see.
Seeing the situation spiraling, Eloise rushed over and grabbed Thaddeus’s arm, whispering urgently,
“If we can land tomorrow’s contract bid, the Hawthorne Group might still be ours.”
Tomorrow’s bid was for the Hawthornes‘ biggest project of the year.
Thaddeus had only pretended to love me to secure his position as CEO anyway.
He figured if he won that contract, Hawthorne Group would still be his.
He swallowed his rage. “Vivienne, I’m giving you one last chance. You’re really choosing him over
me?”
I barely looked at him. “Yes.”
Eloise sneered from the sidelines. “Sister, some random guy you don’t even know–and you trust him? Don’t come crying when he screws you over. At least Thaddeus has actual talent.”
“Really? If Thaddeus lost everything, would you still be kissing his ass?”
