After spending those days at home with Harlan, completely lost in shameless fucking with Harlan.
He was energetic and refreshed every day.
While I was fucked into exhaustion every single day.
While lying around at home as usual, I suddenly got a call from a former colleague.
It was from a girl who’d worked with me since we both started at the company.
She got straight to the point.
“Elysia, I can’t believe you really went through with quitting for good.”
I responded weakly.
“Yeah.”
She sighed.
“Well, we’ve all been missing you. If you’re really not coming back, we wanna eat a meal with you–like a farewell
thing.”
I didn’t see any problem with it.
“Sure, just send me the time and place.”
After agreeing, it hit me.
“Who’s coming? Garrick won’t be there, right?”
When I mentioned Garrick, she got a bit evasive.
“Well, you were technically his assistant, so we couldn’t exactly not invite him to something like this…”
“But he’s so busy, he probably won’t even show up…”
She seemed worried I’d back out.
But thinking about it, so what if Garrick was there?
He was just a stranger now.

The window rolled down immediately.

The moment our eyes met, I knew I was probably doomed.
His cold voice drifted out.

“You’re having dinner with friends here too?”
I wiped at the nonexistent sweat on my forehead.

Before I could figure out how to explain, Harlan glanced toward the entrance.
“The colleagues you mentioned–wouldn’t happen to be them, would it?”
I followed his gaze.
Sure enough, it was my colleague and her group.
As if they were trying to get me killed, one of them jumped up and waved at me.
