Magnus couldn’t figure it out, and for now, no one had the answer.
Those capable of opposing Leon were most likely connected to the major factions in Capitalia.
But right now, no one could clearly say how many factions were vying for power in Capitalia.
Though Waldo appeared to have lost his political standing, it wasn’t entirely impossible for him to stage a comeback.
But Waldo’s influence had clearly waned. Many of his former loyalists were now either sitting on the fence, waiting to see which way the wind would blow, or had already found new patrons.
Ever since Waldo injured his leg at the royal autumn hunt, the factions in Capitalia have clearly descended into turmoil.
Magnus wondered, ‘At this point, which faction exactly is so hell–bent on completely destroying Prince Leon?‘
“Your Highness, the situation in Kabury County remains unclear. We must return immediately,” Jessica urged.
Though Jessica felt confident with Alivia, Karlie, and Elijah there, she knew nothing was ever certain. There was always room for the unexpected.
“Ray, have these three remains and all items seized today sent back to Capitalia with all due haste, to be handled by Lincoln of the High Court. The rest of you, follow me. Make haste back to Kabury County.”
“Yes, Your Highness!”
That night, Leon and his troops pressed on relentlessly toward Kabury County. As dawn approached, he ordered the team to halt and rest for two hours before resuming their march.
Leanna tossed and turned all night, unable to sleep.
Jessica lay not far from her and whispered, “Leanna, is something bothering you?”
Two hours wasn’t much time, and everyone tried to
t some sleep, except Leanna, who kept tossing and turning.
Leanna glanced at her, remorse written all over her face. “Jessica, did I wake you? I’m sorry. I’ll stay still now. Go ahead and rest.”
“No, I can’t really sleep either,” Jessica whispered, keeping her voice low among the soldiers. “Leanna, what’s really on your mind?”
“We’ll be back in Kabury County tomorrow… But trying to rest here now, I just can’t settle my mind,” Leanna

murmured, lowering her gaze.
“Leanna, are you worried about Karlie and Alivia?”
“Jessica…” Leanna was astonished. She thought to herself, ‘How does this girl always seem to see right through me?‘
“Leanna, I know that ever since Dayton’s incident, you’ve always had this fear of the battlefield, not of going to war yourself, but of seeing those you care about marching into battle.”
After moving into the Yates House, Leanna had been inseparable from Karlie.
They cared for Caesar, cooked delicacies, practiced martial arts, horsemanship, and archery, and went out to have fun. They were truly inseparable.
In just half a month, their bond had grown deeper than that of blood sisters.
How could the younger sister not worry when her elder sister went into battle?
After all, the shadow in Leanna’s heart still loomed large.

Jessica whispered, “Leanna, don’t worry. From what I can tell, the ones attacking Kabury County this time are most likely just some local bandits.”
“Why would bandits attack Kabury County?” Leanna was a fighter, not a strategist. When it came to schemes, she was just as much of a novice as Dayton.
“Exactly! Weren’t all the bandits already driven out? Why would they attack Kabury County out of the blue?” a bright voice suddenly cut into their conversation.
Jessica could only sigh in mild exasperation.
Nosiness really was just human nature, after all.
As they were all women, Leon had assigned Mila to guard them, so she was sleeping nearby.
Jessica glanced back at her with a playful smile. “Care to make a wager? I bet they’re bandits. If I’m right, you’ll be my friend from now on, deal?”
