Jessica felt an overwhelming tightness in her chest, her eyes involuntarily welling up with tears.
Seeing her like this, Leanna couldn’t help but smile gently and say, “Silly girl, why so sad? He’s still alive, right here in my heart.”
She placed her hand over her heart.
Jessica stepped forward and took her hand.
Jessica couldn’t help but notice how cold Leanna’s fingers were.
Jessica knew all too well. Leanna was always the one comforting others, yet no one could truly comfort her.
“Jessica, don’t overthink it,” Leanna said gently. “Even though I may feel like my heart has turned to ashes, I still have my own pursuits.”
“What is your purpose in life?” Leanna’s question genuinely surprised Jessica.
Leanna looked at her and suddenly smiled. “Taking care of my Dad, watching over you and Garbisch, and safeguarding the Yates family. That is my life’s purpose.”
Jessica rarely ever cried.
But after leaving Leanna’s Luminous Pavilion, Jessica could barely hold back her tears.
Leanna truly was an extraordinary woman.
So it was true that love could etch itself into a person’s bones, never to be forgotten.
But somehow, she could barely remember what it felt like to have a crush on Waldo.
Looking back now, it was just a bitter dream that left a bad taste in her mouth.
Perhaps there had once been sweet memories, but in the end, his fickle heart shattered the dream to pieces.
Monica, who had been standing guard outside and overheard much of their conversation, asked gently, “My lady, why so pensive? Prince Leon has actually been quite kind to you.”
Perhaps she could sense what Jessica was feeling at this moment.
Monica said gently, “My lady, is it because you’ve been hurt before that you’re afraid to open your heart to someone new? But no matter how careful you are, when love comes knocking, you can’t keep it out forever.”
Jessica playfully tapped Monica’s forehead with her slender finger and teased, “What would you know, you silly girl who hasn’t even liked a boy yet?”
“Ouch!” Monica winced, rubbing her forehead and shooting Jessica a playful glare. “Who says I don’t have a crush?”
“You have a crush on someone?” Jessica felt a pang of guilt. She realized she’d been so preoccupied these past years that she’d neglected Monica. She hadn’t even noticed Monica had developed feelings for someone.
Monica simply smiled, saying nothing.
Just as Jessica stepped out of Luminous Pavilion, Nolan hurried over and called out, “My Lady, Prince Leon has departed.”
“He’s gone?” Jessica asked. For some reason, a sudden hollowness filled her chest.
Jessica’s delicate brows knitted in concern. “Is he… feeling better now?”

“From the looks of it, he hasn’t fully recovered. But we’ve received word from outside the city. Another secret hideout producing thunder grenades ha been discovered. The King… has ordered Prince Leon to lead the mission to suppress the rebels.”
‘So the King still has doubts about him!‘ Jessica thought, her heart sinking.
The one caught was Leon’s uncle, Anthony. Though they wrangled out a confession claiming he was also investigating the case, as a titled noble with no real power, since when would an investigation like this ever fall under his authority?
The King let the matter slide only for the sake of Leon and Thalia, but that didn’t mean suspicion was absent from his heart.
“Where’s Garbisch?” Jessica asked.
“He’s at the Lucid Pavilion,” Nolan replied.
Jessica immediately headed for the Lucid Pavilion.
Strangely, since arriving at Yates House, Elsie had grown noticeably calmer. She even took the initiative to greet Jessica when she learned of Jessica’s
arrival.
Garbisch noticed the subtle worry etched on Jessica’s face. After murmuring a few comforting words to Elsie, he quickly followed Jessica out into the courtyard.
Garbisch asked, “Jessica, are you worried about Prince Leon? Hasn’t the poison already been completely cleared from his system?”
