Leon’s heart warmed. “Abright, you handle the palace investigation. I’ll take care
of
everything outside.”
Jessica scoffed, “Prince Leon, you are that idle? This is my Royal Guard’s responsibility.”
Leon chuckled, “Anything concerning my future wife is my business, too. How could I possibly sit idle?”
After Leon left, Jessica packed her belongings and prepared to visit the Palace Harem.
Monica couldn’t help but whisper, “Prince Leon is so good to you, Miss Jessica. But I still don’t understand. He’s so handsome, so why does he always wear that mask?”
It was well known that the King would never pass the throne to a physically impaired heir. Whether crippled or disfigured, it would damage Novigrad’s prestige.
“Prince Leon keeps wearing that mask, so people think he’s disfigured. Wouldn’t that hurt his chances at the throne? Could it be he doesn’t want… to be crown prince at all?” Monica murmured.
‘However, the crown prince was the future King. Which prince or lord wouldn’t want to be the King?‘ thought Monica.
Monica couldn’t figure out how Leon’s mind worked.
Jessica shook her head slightly and said, “I don’t know what goes through his mind either.”
“Come on, you honestly don’t know?” Monica asked, her tone laced
disbelief.
Jessica said, “We’re not close.”
“No. Miss Jessica, you two are close. I know all about it,” Monica said with a knowing smile.
“Get lost, Monica!” Jessica snapped, her cheeks flushing slightly.
Before Leon left, Jessica repeatedly warned him to be careful. Yet just as he was about to return to the Leon House, he was ambushed by an assassin. It
was a woman.
She was strikingly beautiful. Her looks could be considered exceptional.
She was dressed in black. She fixed Leon with an icy glare, her eyes burning with hatred.
Held tightly by Magnus, the black–clad woman hadn’t even come close to touching Leon. “Let go of me!” she shouted.
Leon returned to the side chamber, where the black–clad woman was escorted before him.
Yet her face remained haughty and unyielding. She showed not a trace of fear, even when captured.
Even Magnus couldn’t help but admire her audacity. Such courage was truly rare among women.
Leon sat on the chair, looking down at her with cold authority. “Who are you? Why did you attempt to assassinate me?”
His frosty stare sent a flicker of unease through the woman in black, yet she remained defiant.
“I’m at your mercy today. Kill me or torture me, do your worst! If I beg for mercy even once, I don’t deserve to be called the daughter of the warlord of Five Tribes in Northern Borderlands.”
Leon’s brow furrowed slightly. “The Five Tribes in Northern Borderlands?”

Magnus immediately responded, “Your Highness, It’s the Five Northern Tribes we conquered last year
“Oh, so you’re the rebel’s daughter?” Leon’s inscrutable dark eyes gave no hint of anger or amusement.
The woman in black struggled violently, but couldn’t break free from Magnus’s grip, Undeterred, she lifted her pate face defiantly and plated at Leon “Damn right! You son of a bitch. Kill me if you dare!”
Leon waved his hand dismissively. “Very well, as you wish. Guards, take her out and beat her to death with chuber
The woman in black blurted out, “What?”
Her eyes were wide. She thought, ‘What the hell? How did things end up so differently from what I planned?
Magnus seemed equally startled. “Y… Your Highness, you truly mean to have her beaten to death?”
Magnus thought, ‘Truth be told, few women would dare act so defiantly before His Highness.
‘Such a waste to beat her to death with clubs.
‘Besides, we haven’t even interrogated her yet!‘
Leon shot him a sidelong glance full of disdain. “The rebel’s daughter dares to disrespect me. Should I spare her and keep her as your bride instead?”
Magnus nearly jumped. He thought, ‘Who in their right mind would marry a rebel’s daughter? That’s just asking for trouble! She is just a rude rebel. No loss if she is beaten to death.‘
“Guards, take her away and execute her with clubs!”
