Waldo was the man Jessica’d once loved wholeheartedly.
For nine long years, in gratitude for the life–saving grace he once showed her, Jessica clung to one unwavering conviction. When she grew up, she would marry him.
That conviction stayed with her, until Priscilla appeared and shattered it completely.
Waldo stood surrounded by an endless sea of black wolves. One after another, they lunged at him, each time he drove one back with his sword, another would immediately leap in to take its place.
He was drenched in blood, his body riddled with gaping wounds, legs, arms, even his back, with crimson streams flowing freely from every cut.
Yet he kept fighting on.
Perched on the treetop, Jessica gazed down at him, her face cold and expressionless.
Suddenly, a black wolf pounced, slamming him violently to the ground.
Another black wolf suddenly clamped its jaws onto his leg and violently dragged him across the ground.
“Your Highness!” Hughie screamed at the top of his lungs, rushing forward to save him, only to be blocked by another black wolf.
In the depths of despair, Hughie suddenly spotted something and jerked his head up.
Hughie cried out, “Ms. Yates!”
Jessica’s sudden appearance struck Hughie like an angel’s descent, flooding him with instant hope.
Hughie cried out desperately, “Ms. Yates, quick, save His Highness!”
Jessica looked down coldly, watching as Waldo was dragged aside by the black wolves, still struggling desperately.
Drenched in blood, Waldo instinctively looked up at Hughie’s desperate cry, and there, perched on the treetop, was Jessica.
But when Waldo saw Jessica, his first instinct wasn’t to ask for help/Instead, he cried out hoarsely, “Jessica, it’s dangerous! Get out of here!”
Not a flicker of emotion crossed Jessica’s face.
Jessica thought bitterly, ‘Late–blooming affection? It’s cheaper than dirt! Even if he still has any feelings for me, that bit of emotion became utterly worthless the moment he helped Priscilla trap my brother and let her maim him with a single blow.‘
“Jessica, run!” Waldo shouted, kicking the black wolf away with all his might. Gritting through the pain, he staggered to his feet and limped toward the
tree where Jessica was.
With each agonizing step, fresh wounds opened on his body, and a black wolf’s savage bite tore a chunk of flesh from his calf.
Terror–stricken, Hughie struggled helplessly to reach Waldo.
Though Hughie was also wounded, having just arrived, he still had plenty of stamina left.
But Waldo had been locked in a desperate battle with the black wolves for so long that he was nearly at his limit.
“Your Highness…” Just then, another black wolf let out a ferocious snarl and lunged at Waldo, its fangs aimed right at his throat. Terrified, Hughie screamed at the top of his lungs, “Jessica, quick, save His Highness!”
Waldo knew there was no escaping this time. The black wolf had wrenched his sword away, and now the beast was already mid–leap, hurtling straight at

him.
‘Who would’ve thought? After all my heroic deeds, I’d meet my end here,‘ he thought with a bitter smile.
His entire life flashed before his eyes. Despair

Jessica scoffed, “Who cares?”
She let out a cold whisper, and in an instant, an icy gale swept in with a whoosh.
The black wolf that had lunged at him was suddenly blasted away with tremendous force, slamming to the ground with a heavy thud.
Startled, the other black wolves instinctively released the two they were grappling with and scrambled backward in alarm.
Hughie, having narrowly escaped death, scrambled to his feet and rushed to Waldo’s side, desperately helping him up. “Your Highness! Your Highness!” he cried out in panic.
With a gasp of relief, he cried out, “His Highness survived!”
The black wolf’s fangs never reached his throat.
They looked up at the slim figure before them, utterly shocked and disbelieving, stunned into silence.
