Dylan’s mom’s face went stiff.
She wanted to get mad but didn’t dare.
She knew I wasn’t the same pushover I used to be.
That’s when I heard someone screaming, “Dylan, you said you owned that company!”
I turned to see Mia, looking completely wrecked, on top of Dylan with her hands around his throat.
She was totally losing it, sobbing and yelling. “You lied to me! You said you were successful, that you were worth hundreds of millions!”
“You promised me and Tyler a good life, that I’d be a rich man’s wife. It was all fake! You’re just a freeloader who tricked me into marriage!”
“I was about to marry a billionaire in London! I gave that up and came back for you! Now I have nothing!”
Mia was having a complete mental breakdown.
Dylan kicked her off him and struggled to his feet.
He looked crushed. “You always said you didn’t care about money. You just wanted Tyler to have a complete family.”
Even the cops were getting tired of this circus.
They arrested everyone and told them they’d definitely be doing jail time if they couldn’t pay for the damages.
As Dylan’s crew got hauled away, Garrett carried me to his car and rushed me to the hospital.
Turns out I just had some cuts and bruises–nothing that wouldn’t heal in a few days with some rest.
At the hospital, my parents rushed over.
They’d heard what happened on the way and were absolutely livid.
My dad immediately announced he was firing Dylan from our family company and launching a full audit of his finances to see if he’d been embezzling. If they found anything, he was going straight to the feds.
Garrett turned to my dad with a serious expression. “Don’t worry, sir. I’ve already blacklisted him from every industry I have connections in.”
“I guarantee he won’t find work anywhere. Hell, even if he tried panhandling, no one would give him spare change.”

Chapter 9
My parents looked at Garrett with such relief and approval.
They shook their heads. “We always thought you were perfect for Emma. Too bad our daughter had terrible taste–threw away gold to pick up rocks.”
“Thank God you two found your way back to each other.”
Garrett smiled. “I just wasn’t good enough to make Emma fall for me at first sight.”
My mom raised an eyebrow. “Not good enough? Honey, I’d adopt you as my son if I could.”
“I’d love that,” Garrett grinned, “but then marrying Emma would get really complicated.”
My mom actually looked disappointed. “Good point.”
Garrett shot me a mischievous look. “How about this–you adopt me and disown Emma. Problem solved.”
I couldn’t believe my parents were actually considering it.
