Chapter 4
My head was pounding with rage. “You’re paying for those flowers!”
Dylan rolled his eyes. “Emma, he’s just a kid. Why are you being so dramatic?”
“Just go make dinner or something. Stop picking fights with a five–year–old.”
And then–I swear to God–he handed me an apron.
I actually laughed. “Are you kidding me right now? You think I’m your personal chef? Make your
own damn dinner.”
Dylan’s face got all serious. “Emma, can you please just act like an adult for five minutes? You’ve
been throwing a tantrum since the County Clerk’s Office.”
“Everything was fine until you started causing drama. Now you’re ruining what should be a happy family moment.”
“I’m trying to throw you a bone here–let you make dinner so you can apologize to Mia and Tyler for being such a bitch.”
I stared him down. “Dylan, look me in the eye and tell me you honestly think I owe them an apology.”
He couldn’t meet my gaze for more than a second.
Then he sighed like I was exhausting him. “Look, the kid didn’t ask for any of this. You’re the adult here, Emma. So what if you have to suck it up a little? I’ll make it up to you later.”
My heart went ice cold. “Why should I? Didn’t I get screwed over too?”
That’s when the little psycho grabbed a fork from somewhere and stabbed it into my thigh. “Get out!
Get out of my house!”
I shoved him away from me. “I bought this house. If anyone’s leaving, it’s YOU.”
The kid immediately started bawling and threw himself into Mia’s arms.
And yeah, I did buy this house. It was supposed to be our dream home, our future. Apparently Dylan forgot that tiny detail when he decided to play house with his baby mama.

Mia started crying too, putting on her victim act. “You’re right, Dylan. We shouldn’t have come here. We’ll leave right now.”
But Dylan rushed to comfort her instead of dealing with his psycho kid who just stabbed me with silverware.
“It’s already dark out, and Mia has Tyler with her. Where are they supposed to go? Emma, just be the bigger person here.”
I nodded. “Fine. But they’re gone first thing in the morning, or I’m calling the cops.”
Dylan’s jaw tightened. “If you’re gonna kick them out, then I’m leaving too.”
“Perfect,” I said.
I headed to my bedroom to crash for the night.
But when I opened the door, my bed was completely trashed. The sheets were wrinkled, the comforter was messed up, and there was a lacy bra shoved under my pillow.
I literally felt sick to my stomach.
Mia had been sleeping in my bed?
I grabbed my important documents, didn’t even look at the three of them, and walked straight out the front door, slamming it behind me.
Hotel it is. That whole place was contaminated now–I’d have to get a cleaning crew in there
tomorrow.
And throw out everything they touched.
After the day I’d had, I was ready to collapse.
