Chapter 5
Both Ariana and Aurora immediately shrank back in fear.
But neither wanted to miss this opportunity, desperately trying to prove themselves.
Ariana reacted fastest, immediately sending someone to fetch her acceptance letter from home.
She said, “Dad, Mom, I’m the person you’re looking for. The acceptance letter clearly shows my name–there’s no mistake about it.”
Listening from the side, I almost burst out laughing.
It seemed Ariana had already changed the name on the acceptance letter to hers.
Just then, Aurora couldn’t hold back: “Dad, Mom, I already told you earlier. I sold her the test scores, so of course the acceptance letter is in her hands. But what she doesn’t know is that besides the acceptance letter, I also received a personal letter from the principal. I kept it at home. I’ll have someone bring it back right
now.”
With that, she nudged Jacob. He immediately understood and ran home.
Soon, both groups returned. Looking at the acceptance letter
and letter in front of them, Alexander and Valentina frowned deeply.
Alexander said, “This isn’t right. The test paper we saw clearly showed the candidate’s name as Kennedy.”

Earlier, my clothes had been nearly torn to shreds. Out of respect, Alexander and Valentina hadn’t looked at me carefully.
Now, as they studied my appearance closely, their breathing almost stopped.
Meeting their gaze, I looked at Valentina’s face and couldn’t help but marvel.
Valentina and I looked remarkably alike.
My face shape resembled Valentina’s, while my eyebrows and eyes were like Alexander’s. My features looked as if their facial features had been recombined.
Valentina’s eyes immediately reddened. She carefully took my hand, about to say something when Ariana blocked me: “There’s been a misunderstanding.”
Then she looked at me threateningly: “Kennedy, come here. I need to talk to you.”
I knew Alexander and Valentina had recognized my test paper by the handwriting, so I wasn’t afraid of Ariana and Aurora competing with me. I followed Ariana to the side.
Ariana immediately became serious, then grabbed my collar: “Kennedy, I’m warning you not to meddle in things that don’t concern you. As long as you cooperate and give me this position, I’ll have my parents adopt you as their goddaughter. From now on, this entire garment factory will be yours. If you dare resist, I’ll have all the workers say in unison that you’re a whore who sells her body. Think about it–would they welcome such a daughter?”
After saying this, worried I wouldn’t believe her, she added through gritted teeth: “Don’t worry. As long as you cooperate with me, I’ll definitely give you more money. Five thousand dollars. No, fifty–thousand dollars!”
Then Ariana confidently patted my shoulder: “How about it? My
offer is pretty good, isn’t it?”
Seeing me nod, Ariana thought I’d been bought off by the fifty thousand dollars and excitedly ran back.
I wanted to follow her, but after just two steps, Jacob blocked my path.
He observed my expression somewhat warily. Seeing I had no reaction, he said hesitantly: “Kennedy, what happened earlier was my fault. Don’t take it to heart. As long as you help me prove that Aurora is General Taylor’s daughter, I’m willing to stay in our hometown with you and treat you well for the rest of our lives. I know you’ve always worried about something happening between Aurora and me. Don’t worry–once Aurora becomes General Taylor’s daughter, I’ll cut all ties with her.”
After saying this, worried I wouldn’t believe him, Jacob raised his hand and swore an oath.
