Chapter 7
I was about to get into the carriage when Damon suddenly rushed over and blocked my path.
“Princess, are you really going to mate with Rhett?”
I glanced up at him with barely contained irritation. “What else would I be doing?”
The entire palace was busy preparing for the mating ceremony. Did he think it was all fake?
A flash of panic crossed Damon’s eyes. “This is about your whole future. If you’re having second
thoughts, it’s not too late to change your mind.”
I stared at him like he’d lost it. “Why would I have second thoughts?”
Damon was speechless.
Seeing him clam up, I turned to leave, but then he shouted, “You’re in love with me! Why are you
mating someone else?”
I stopped dead in my tracks.
Ever since he chose to save Talia instead of me, I’d completely given up on him.

I glared at both of them. “What the hell is wrong with you two?”
Rhett looked genuinely confused. “I have no idea why he suddenly went psycho and challenged me to a fight.”
Damon just hung his head, not daring to look at me.
The mating ceremony was only ten days away, and I couldn’t have Rhett looking like he’d been hit by a truck.
I ordered someone to take him to get patched up, and didn’t spare Damon so much as a glance.
