Chapter 5
The entire hall fell silent in an instant, like the air itself had frozen.
Rowan was the first to snap out of it.
He stared at me in shock. “Princess, did you read that wrong? You sure the mate is Rhett and not
Damon?”
“Yeah, Princess Astra, this… how could it possibly be Rhett? Is there some mistake?”
Everyone looked at me in confusion, unable to believe it could actually be him.
I nodded and handed the decree to Rhett. “That’s right. It’s him.”
Rhett looked at me with an expression I couldn’t quite read.
My heart sank. “You don’t want this?”
Rhett lowered his eyes and spoke with formal reverence. “I, Rhett Blackthorn of the Ironwood Pack, accept the Moon Goddess’s will and take Princess Astra as my destined Luna.”
I finally let out a breath of relief.
When I looked up and met Damon’s gaze, his face had gone completely pale. He stared at me in disbelief, not even reacting when Talia tugged on his arm.
I found the whole scene almost amusing.
When I chose him, he wasn’t happy.
When I didn’t choose him, he still wasn’t happy. Honestly, half the time I had no clue what was going through his head.
I was done trying to figure him out and looked away.
Rowan snatched the decree from Rhett’s hands, glanced at it, and laughed. “Holy shit, it really is Rhett! Dude, you’re full of surprises. I totally thought Princess Astra would pick Damon.”
“Come on, spill. When did you two start hooking up?”

Chapter 5
Rhett just shrugged, giving me a complicated look.
After that, Damon seemed completely out of it. Just as I was about to leave, he suddenly pushed Talia
away and chased after me.
His voice was sharp with accusation. “Why Rhett?”
I looked at him with contempt. “Who should it have been then?”
“I…”
Damon’s lips moved, but no words came out for a long moment.
I stared at him coldly. “I remember you telling me you were already committed to someone else and asking me not to make things difficult. Well, now I’ve done you a favor. Shouldn’t you be
celebrating?”
Yeah, he should be.
So why did his heart feel like it was in complete chaos, like he was about to lose something
irreplaceable?
Damon gritted his teeth and finally managed to say, “He’s not worthy of you. Please reconsider,
Princess.”
I scoffed. “Since I chose him, he’s worthy enough.”
Damon looked stunned, then said angrily, “But you don’t even know him! You’ll regret mating with
him.”
My response was simple: “No, I won’t.”
From the moment I chose Rhett, I’d already prepared myself to accept whatever came next–good or
bad, I’d deal with it.
I turned and walked away, leaving Damon far behind.
