Chapter 19
Chapter 19
Maya’s hands trembled with fear as she realized Camden had completely lost his mind.
She forced herself to stay alert–in this situation, she had to find a way to escape on her own.
As the car continued down the highway, Maya suddenly spoke up: “I need to use the bathroom.”
Camden glanced at her. “Hold it.”
Maya deliberately made her voice sound tearful: “I can’t hold it anymore. Camden, please, just let me go to the bathroom, okay?”
Camden looked at her, then pulled into the next service station. “Don’t try anything stupid.”
Maya nodded, scanning the area for any chance to call for help.
But the place was deserted–there was no opportunity to escape.
The car got back on the highway, and Maya looked at Camden, trying again: “Camden, can we talk about this? You’re only going to destroy yourself doing this.”
Camden’s voice was eerily calm: “There’s nothing left to talk about. Once we’re back in the States, you’ll understand this was all worth it. You’ll love me again, just like before.”
Maya closed her eyes, feeling utterly hopeless.
Suddenly, Camden’s phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID, hung up immediately, and turned off the phone.
“Who was that?”
“No one important.”
The car kept driving, and Maya began recognizing the surroundings until they stopped outside her apartment
building.
“Where’s your passport?”
Maya finally understood why Camden had driven back here–he needed her passport.
“In my bedroom dresser,” she lied, hoping to buy some time.
Camden found her keys and looked at her with dangerous eyes: “I’ll be right back. Stay here and behave.”
He put duct tape over her mouth, locked the car, and left.
Chapter 19
Maya frantically searched for an escape route while he was upstairs.
But before she could think of anything, Camden was back.
He held her passport triumphantly, his eyes bright with joy: “Maya, we’re going home now. We’ll get remarried, and you’ll be Mrs. Harrington again.”
Looking at the completely unhinged Camden, Maya shifted tactics, making her voice gentle.
“Camden, I’ve been thinking… maybe you’re right. Things with James moved too fast.”
Camden stared at her in shock–he hadn’t expected her to say that.
Maya took a deep breath and continued: “Like you said, we had years together. That’s not something you can just forget. I still only have room for you in my heart. I’ve been thinking about you this whole time too.”
“Really? You finally see it?” Camden’s eyes lit up instantly. He grabbed Maya’s hands, overcome with emotion.
Maya nodded, trying to keep her expression neutral.
“But Camden, kidnapping is a serious crime. Can we start over properly? Take me home first, and we can talk this
through.”
Hearing this, Camden’s smile vanished, his eyes turning cold again: “No, Maya. You’re lying to me. The second I let you go, you’ll call the police. We have to leave now. Everything will be fine once we’re back home.”
Maya’s heart sank, her fingers trembling slightly.
She hadn’t expected Camden to see through her so quickly.
As they entered the airport highway, Maya’s heart raced with panic.
Was this really happening? Was Camden really going to take her back to the States?
Suddenly, honking came from behind them. A black SUV was approaching at incredible speed.
The window rolled down, and Maya saw James’s face, cold with fury and worry.
Maya’s heart soared–it was James! He’d come to save her.
‘Maya, protect yourself!” James shouted her name, then his SUV slammed into the back of Camden’s car.
The next second, Camden’s car spun out of control. Airbags deployed, and the impact made Maya’s vision go black. Camden was hurt much worse–his face was covered in blood, his eyes closed, apparently unconscious.
ames pulled Maya from the wreckage, holding her tightly.
‘It’s okay now, it’s okay,” he kept reassuring her.

But then the unconscious Camden came to, started the engine, and drove straight at Maya and James like a missile.
James threw himself and Maya toward the roadside just as the car roared past, then crashed into the concrete barrier, rolling several times before landing upside down in the middle of the road.
Sirens and ambulance sounds filled the air. When rescue workers pulled Camden from the wreckage, his legs were mangled beyond recognition.
James quickly covered Maya’s eyes. “Don’t look.”
Maya closed her eyes, her heart finally settling as the terror ended.
Camden survived, but with high–level amputations–he would spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
When Lily learned what happened, she came to Maya screaming and ranting, blaming her for Camden’s condition.
James had security drag her out and made sure she was banned from the area permanently.
To Maya, that day’s events were an accident entirely of Camden’s own making–it had nothing to do with her.
A month later, Maya and James held their engagement ceremony as planned.
The day was filled with guests, every face showing genuine happiness for the couple.
James held Maya close in his arms. From this moment forward, every day ahead would be theirs to write together.
